Worst chips ever. Rock hard and painful to eat. Most ended up in the bin because they were totally inedible. I think they must cook the chips once and then throw them back in later when you order. The staff/owner should try eating some themselves. Cook them once and they will be edible.
Called in for a quick bite before school run served quickly waited for ever on a sandwich. Seems they are always short staff and no one really running the show.sandwich was just ok have had better coffee not great very weak and flat so would give this a miss.Loads of other places in castlewellan to spend money in.
Hare's Gap Bistro, is Situated in the heart of the Mournes, you will not get a view like it within miles. We offer everything from a hearty fry to a sunday Lunch and can also cater for Private Parties/Functions.
Had lunch here recently on a beautiful day looking out at the spectacular view. It is a pity but the food didn't live up to the surroundings. Had the most unappetising bowl of vegetable soup I have ever experienced. Just big shreds of green vegetables in a brown liquid. This was accompanied by the most uninspiring cheese and ham sandwich which was only half filled and totally dry. The place seems to be run by very young girls who try their best but are a bit incompetent. Sadly I won't be back.

After a lengthy afternoon walk in the sunshine around Newcastle we came across Olive Bizarre along the front and ordered coffee, fruit scones and chocolate brownie. Our choice was difficult with so many loveliest choose from but what a delight with fab fruity scones and Smartie covered brownie accompanying coffee made exactly to order. If you're in the area don't miss out on this lovely coffee stop or the quirky ladies loo!
Overtaken by a sudden urge for food, Nanaâs Kitchen distinctive sign leapt into view. Situated towards the lower square and opposite Shillidayâs traditional hardware store the aroma of a welcoming all day breakfast wafted on the breeze. In the event common sense took a grip and we opted for Spicy Tomato soup with homemade wheaten bread. A great choice. Staff were delightfully friendly, the place busy, the food delicious and generous and the prices modest. Many thanks.

We visited Blue Bay Cafe on Saturday 21 September 2019. I had a delicious open prawn salad, my husband had a tasty sandwich with proper, boiled ham, cheese and coleslaw. Both generous helpings, we couldn't find room for dessert, though my husband did manage a German biscuit. Service was quick and friendly. The cafe is small, around 18 seats, well situated in Dundrum. We will certainly return when we are nest in Dundrum.

Called in as group on Thursday 4th July and the salad has obviously not been rinsed as there were gritty bits in every mouthful. The order came incomplete and there was no compensation for this mess. Looks can be deceptive. This appears to be a cafe in an old garage beside a derelict house (which is actually what it is!) but it is so cosy, and warm. The staff are incredibly nice , there seems to be a real community interest in the place. The soups ,scones (made in front of us!) , cakes , coffees and tea are delicious and unbelievably cheap. Food is organic and local where possible. I doubt you can find a better, more interesting ,warm or welcoming place....and a big dog too! That's really lovely review, you've nailed us! Thank you so much, looking forward to seeing you again.John & Elaine - and Charlie!

We were out for a drive today and decided to stop off for lunch. Rather than travel on to Maghera .........we decided to check out Castlewellan. We liked the look of Bilbos from the outside - clean, tidy and attractive. The menu was clearly displayed and showed a variety of dishes for all tastes. It was busy and that is always a good sign. We were welcomed as soon as we entered through the door and we then chose a nice table in a private corner. It is small inside but you can still have a private conversation without being overheard. Our menu arrived promptly and we ordered quickly. Our tea and water were brought right away. The food arrived quickly- after being freshly cooked. Our waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble! I never order anything as it appears on the menu - I tend to change things around! This was not an issue and what I received was exact what I had ordered. That does not happen in other eating establishments! Hubby's Fry was very tasty and not greasy. My chicken and salad delicious. More tea was not an issue .... and to finish off we were given fab homemade shortbread - this was a really nice touch. When we are in the vicinity again we will come to Bilbos - not anywhere else. We were very impressed. 10/10 staff 10/10 food 10/10 value
