The Boat Cafe

Reviewed By Voluntarystress C

We have been walking along the Kennet and Avon Canal for over 40 years, but couldn't have been for a year or so. Just when we needed coffee there was this wonderful canal barge turned into a café, just outside Bradford on Avon on the way to Avoncliff. There were tables and chairs beside the barge out in the sunshine and 2 cafetieres of coffee were delicious and so reasonable as was everything else on the menu. We were served by a most friendly owner. We shall be back and probably eat next time. There was ample seating inside and I think I spotted a stove. That should be fun on a cold winter walk. Can't recommend highly enough.

Only the best home made cakes and freshly made salads and warm food here. The secret WI recipe scones are delicious. In addition run by a lovely family and friendly staff. They offer vegan cakes and plant milk too. It's dog friendly and a great place for families. Outside seating in a stunning location.

The Rose Garden Tea-Room

Just wanted to echo all the other 5 star reviews of this establishment.Everything is clean and fresh at the The Rose Garden Tea-Room with attentive friendly staff who always seem eager to please.I was also really happy to see all the different combinations of salads with ploughman's lunches, field mushroom with melted Stilton cheese et etcetera. The menu choices were just the ticket for a hot summer day with temperatures up to around 28°C.(I should have taken a picture of the menu board!)And what is the secret to this exceptionally well run establishment? It's independently / privately run and is NOT part of the National Trust! If this was a National Trust tea-room, they would probably have been serving (hot) Lamb Tagine or something similarly inappropriate (with complete disregard for the weather conditions) and the menu board would list considerably fewer options. Great cake selection too!

I very rarely write a bad review, but given that the cafe had closed at least 90 mins earlier than its scheduled closing time I feel I have no choice! I have no idea why you would close a cafe early, given that they only open 3 days a week anyway and it was August, in the middle of the school summer holidays. To explain..... we passed by the cafe whilst walking the canal path en route to Bath. We checked it out to make sure it served decaf coffee with soya milk, checked the opening times and planned to return on the way back. We made sure we arrived in plenty of time and in fact got there by 3:30, only to discover that they had closed because of the weather?? Ok the sun wasn't shining and the sky wasn't blue - but we are in the UK, and if they close every time there's a grey sky I can only say they must be very unreliable, and one has to question their commitment to their customers. Very disappointing and my first one star review for a very long time.Thank you for your review, we always welcome feedback. To clarify, we closed early due to the stormy conditions on Saturday 10th August where we were experiencing extreme high winds. It was thundering and raining on and off all day. In the interests of our staff safety and the safety of our customers we closed early. Much like a lot of businesses and festivals on that stormy day. It is unfortunate however we must put safety first. The winds picked up throughout the day and peaked in the afternoon. We are extremely committed to our customers and we considered our customers in the decision making process. We are a predominantly outside area and as we are surrounded by many large trees and there were bins and trays being blown around which is not safe our decision to close was reached. We put up signage explaining this in order to inform any potential customers braving the stormy conditions as not leave them wondering. Many thanks

We were in Bradford on Avon for the day - decided to pop in here for breakfast, but wish we hadn't - the poached eggs were hard, the hasbrowns soggy and the bread was cheap - which the breakfast certainly was not - there are lots of better options in Bradford on Avon, these need to up their game drastically!

We went to this gorgeous little place last week. Sat outside surrounded by lovely pots and plants. We had tea, cider cake (I'd recommend it!) 3 ice-creams for the children and my friend had lemon & elderflower cake, all served on vintage china.Thd staff could not be friendlier or helpful. Definitely recommend it.

During a short stay at Bradford-on-Avon, my wife and I had tea, coffee and cake at 'The Canal Trust Cafe'. We went back again the following day for a second helping of pineapple and coconut cake. This small cafe is situated at Bradford Wharf, adjacent to the lock and tow path. It is well worth visiting to sample the food and meet the very friendly and efficient staff. This is a dog friendly venue with great walks nearby.
