The Beehive on the Green

Well what an amazing little cafe/deli. Whilst visiting Eastbourne we thought we’d drive out to East Dean for some lunch. On arriving the pub was very busy as was the other cafe so we decided to give the Beehive a go. We got the last table! The coffee was excellent, the food simple and perfectly executed, the staff friendly. There was a lovely vibe and buzz to this quirky little place. There were interesting paintings and objet d’arts available to purchase and in fact I purchased a lovely pottery flower pot with bees on it!Really looking forward to another visit soon.

First visit. Pretty country garden and shabby-chic china, etc. Staff very, very slow to clear tables. Paid for tea and cake but then had to wait at least 20 minutes before it was brought out. Cakes delicious, home-made and unusual flavours, with several gluten-free options. Dog-friendly too. No problem with wasps, as mentioned in earlier reviews: plenty of wasp traps around.

Had an early dinner here, so we had the Sipper menu. Initially I thought it was a bit limited, but everything we ordered was super tasty! The burger seemed like it was home made with herbs, the fish cake was delicious and the waitress was adorable and very attentive.

Lovely tea room we have visited before but opening times were not great. Now under new ownership.... we discovered when the new owner Nicky introduced herself.....we enjoyed scones with tea & then treated ourselves to slice of cake. Delicious food quick & friendly service we will definitely be back.

We visited The Grumpy Chef following the recommendation of our host in Seaford. The atmosphere was buzzing on Saturday evening with the place nearly full, but service coped beautifully and was friendly and efficient. The menu is varied and interesting with plenty on offer for vegetarians, tempting salads, seafood, pasta dishes, steaks and much more. I was bowled over (pun intended) by my roasted tomato soup and the mussles were lovely (perhaps a tad too much cream). We also loved the aubergine salad and the wild mushroom arancini. Overall a perfect meal at a fraction of the price we would have paid in London for such quality food (and drinks have a very reasonable price tag too). Very Highly Recommended!

Not a name I would associate with coffee and cakes, but having got off the No.12 bus just round the corner took a chance and opened the door! To my surprise was a totally “buzzing” cafe and as a solo visitor was asked if I minded sitting on the end of one of their huge tables with the option of maybe sharing. No problem for me, always ready to chat to new people! Only wanted a coffee which was served promptly but resisted the temptation of their lovely looking cakes etc.On my walk later along the esplanade a local lady said the lunches here were excellent....so I returned later and ordered a carrot soup which came with a HUGE slice at “artisan” bread. Is this the latest eating trend? Anyway it was delicious and as I was here on holiday and having large evening meals, this fitted the bill. Talking of which was pleasantly priced. It was interesting seeing the one chef on view preparing meals, which shows they’ve nothing to hide, I like it!

Sub-Station

A hub of interesting folk, humerous conversation , the smoothest coffee and a great menu all at affordable prices. This is why we would only visit Sub Station whilst on holiday in Seaford. We love this family run cafe and so does our dog... He doesn't get left out! The owners here make you feel so welcome whether on your own or with family and friends and with their flexible laid back approach to life there is always time for another coffee with them. Don't walk past, pop in and support them and keep the sub station alive. Thank you Daryl and 'mother' we will see you again in September :) you don't get doggie ice-cream in Kent! Booooo

Alfriston is an attractive little village just about 20 minutes from Eastbourne. But relying on public transport or in this case, voluntary bus service to get there, it seems only possible on weekends. We went on a Sunday, my lady insisted we went to church. This was a unique experience with six bell ringers, ringing the church bells in the middle of the church. Something we had never seen before. Afterwards we walked over the Village Green and enjoyed walking round the little sideways and by-ways of a Sussex village. Before going back to Eastbourne we had delightful and tasty cream teas in The Singing Kettle in the village centre.
