The Old Inn is a traditional country pub in the heart of the idyllic village of Holt. Situated close to the historic town of Wimborne Minster, The Old Inn is the perfect destination when you fancy a homemade, traditional pub meal.
Pleasant family meal for 7 and the staff very accommodating ( 4 lots extra toast for the very nice pate).Wife had very nicely prepared proper pie.Dogs were made welcome. As a fellow pub owner Iâd probably suggest dropping the adding of the automatic service charge, other reviewers donât seem to like it and itâs one of those that niggles us Brits when we visit the USA! Otherwise all good, thanks for letting us stay in our Motorhome.Thank you for your comments and we are glad you had a great experience at the Old Inn. Service charge is always controversial and we have been trialling for six months. The service charge is fully discretionary so guests are not made to pay it. Many guests like the option as it makes it easier for them. It is 100% distributed to the staff which we find makes them feel appreciated, work harder and more attentive. It also helps to retain staff. The guests who don't like it or feel they have had bad service should not pay it. As a fellow pub owner, I would recommend adding a discretionary service charge to your menus for parties of 4-6 or more.

Called in here for dinner one early evening as it looked so lovely from the outside with the gorgeous thatched roof. We were welcomed by a really friendly guy who had excellent customer service skills. We both had the steak and ale pie which was a big portion and came with chips, veg and gravy. It was delicious and absolutely packed with good quality steak, didn't have a bad piece between us! I found the deserts to be quite expensive and sadly disappointing, next time I would just stick to the main course. The pub has a dog friendly section and the other lady who was working so hard was also so courteous and polite, between her and the other friendly guy who came to check on us they were really working tirelessly to seat everyone, take orders, serve up the drinks and take the money, all with a smile and skip in their step! When we left, the pub was absolutely packed full and they said every table had been taken so we were lucky to get in when we did without booking :-)

Modern British food including fresh fish, meat & seasonal game. Wide variety of vegetarian options.Monthly changing menus.Cracking ales, wines & ciders.
Slightly strange Sunday lunch menu. I opted for the hake which was on specials menu without prawns and it came with new potatoes plus salad. My mum had the same but with prawns her salad had some tough leaves in it. My dad asked for the steak burger without the bun but got the bun anyway, the burger was dry but the chips were lovely. I didn't have a pudding but mum had the panna cotta which looked very pretty and dad just had a lemon sorbet. Friendly service. Not sure I would return

Set in picturesque Wimborne Minster, The Tickled Pig serves an eclectic array of traditional British and modern European cuisine. Proudly growing many of their own ingredients, The Tickled Pig also uses produce sourced from the finest local suppliers. The
Wimborne and the East Dorset/ Poole area needs more restaurants like Tickled Pig. With 2 quality restaurants closing in the area recently we appreciate the Tickled Pig even more. Service is welcoming and professional, a fairly short menu provides interesting choices that just a little bit different from the standard English restaurant fare. We took friends who had not been before and they were thoroughly impressed with the food and the atmosphere on a busy Friday evening. I particularly like the use of locally produced (not just 'sourced' as many other restuarants quote) ingredients and products. Anyone who serves Purbeck Ice Cream is a winner with me!

Ordered the 8oz beef burger with chips and my meal was very tasty. Stated on menu that the food was supplied by local butcher - you could tell the quality tbh, so yummy !!Welcoming and friendly staff who came over to check all ok with my grub etc. A nice sort of "olde worlde" feel about this place but very tidy & clean & hygienic at the same time.I'm back in the Wimborne area again soon for another show @ Tivoli Theatre & I'll definitely be returning to this pub once more for my pre-show meal.Cheers to all the staff & keep up the good work !

Very popular with locals and toursts alike - good food, relaxed atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. Quality of food and customer service are our trademark. OPEN 6 DAYS A WEEK,CLOSED MONDAY,SUNDAY 9.30-3.30.
Went to Cloisters initially as it was raining. However, glad we did as the tea cakes were a surprise.Whilst this eatery is one of our neighbours, we never get to try it. We were warned, but thought wot the hell. They are enormous. Yes you could share and yes I would agree to one of the reviewers about them being pre-buttered.But sure you could ask for them not to be or even ask for more butter if necessary. It always appears very busy and sure it gets its regulars.Only been a handful of times in nearly 4 years but it has a quick service and friendly staff.Recommended Thank you so much for such a positive review. We do pre butter our Teacakes as this seems to be what our regulars like, but you are right of course we can leave unbuttered for you to do yourself if requested and offer dairy free or extra butter on request.Hope to see you again soon! Rain or shine.

Set in an idyllic location, surrounded by majestic trees and a tranquil riverside setting, The Millstream Bistro is well worth a visit. Each day there is a Specials Board offering a fine selection of affordable gourmet dishes. There is always a good choic
After recommending Millstream Bistro to a friend, she chose to eat here for her birthday lunch. It was idyllic- sitting outside in the sunshine by the river enjoying one of the best lunches Iâve had for a long time. We both chose the Twice Baked Haddock Soufflé from the interesting and varied menu, which offers so much more than just a toastier or panini although those are available should you wish to choose them. The light and fluffy soufflé had a generous amount of haddock and the glazed rarebit was absolutely delicious. It was accompanied by a red onion salad- again a generous portion- so much so that we didnât need the extra salad that we had ordered. For dessert we both chose the nougat glacé which was probably the best dessert I have ever eaten. I could have licked the plate! The following day was my wedding anniversary and when my husband offered to take me out for lunch I had no hesitation in returning to the Millstream Bistro. On finding out that it was our anniversary, Marc surprised us by decorating our dessert with a special message. A lovely personal touch!Definitely my first choice for lunch in Wimborne!Thank you for coming to see us again. We are pleased you enjoyed your meal with us and also the message on your dessert plate. We are all about the little touches. We look forward to welcoming you again very soon

Service was second to none! The knowledge from Corey was mind blowing without making us feel inferior. He managed to find our most favourite wine with the soul purpose of making sure we enjoyed every moment of your night. We would also like to express our love for Lee, he encouraged as to try new cheeses that at first we wouldnât have chosen however they were FAB!!We canât wait to see you guys in Verwood soon, would absolutely recommend!Canât thank you enough, Courtney, Holly and Jess xox

British Pub with craft beers, local and European home cooked food!Large car park, garden, sheltered smoking area, child friendly!
The positives are the friendly staff and the dining area. The pub is fairly small but cosy with good decor and seating. The is a reasonable selection of choice and a daily special. We had lunch of pork schnitzel and burger which where all reasonably well cooked. The chips however were obviously not home made which I queried and was told "we are not a restaurant we don't have time to make our own chips" !!! If you like McCain chips you will be fine.
