I hate leaving negative feedback but this visit with my family left me so disappointed in what used to be a lovely pub. The service was slow and one male staff member came across very rude! Our drinks took so long to arrive and the food was over cooked and dry. The only highlight was our lovely overworked waitress. Sad to say there are better pubs around.

Bracklesham Bay Tea Rooms and Garden is ideally situated a few minutes walk from Bracklesham beach and is known by locals as the "gateway to Bracklesham Bay". Also known as Clifford's Cottage, our tea rooms are based in a beautiful thatched cottage nestle
We decided to combine my birthday and our wedding anniversary with a family afternoon tea for 5 at this tearoom. It was an extra special day as we were combining both occasions. This tearoom asks for pre-orders of sandwich and scone choice for afternoon tea. I wrongly assumed this was to ensure they had enough stock - NOT so they could prepare the sandwiches ahead of our visit especially as the menu clearly states that "SANDWICHES ARE FRESHLY MADE TO ORDER." As asked, I phoned earlier this week to pre-order and as they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays I left an answer machine message so didn't actually speak to anyone. I absolutely hate butter in sandwiches - I can't understand why it is put in sandwiches as it's an easy way to reduce calories and fat content. So the moment we arrived I told the waitress I didn't want butter in my sandwich thinking it wouldn't be a problem as they would be making the sandwiches FRESH on our arrival AS STATED ON THE MENU. (This would make sense - what would happen if we'd had to cancel at the last minute? They would have been stuck with 5 afternoon teas then). Anyway the waitress said something weird like she wasn't sure it could be changed as the sandwiches were already made and then asked, Did I really want fresh bread? I said, Er yes I did as I'd just said I don't eat butter. I thought it was a simple request as we were paying a lot for 5 full afternoon teas. After a short while the waitress returned to tell me they would make another prawn sandwich without butter but that we'd have to pay extra for the original sandwich although they would give us this one too! When I asked why they couldn't just scrape my filling into fresh un-buttered bread, she said even if they did that they'd still have to charge extra as, "Obviously they would still be wasting 2 slices of bread and butter!" Unbelievable! If there hadn't been so many of us I would have walked out there and then. It totally spoiled my afternoon which was supposed to be so special. Then, when the sandwiches were brought out, another woman - I presume the cook or owner - told me yet again that as the sandwiches were pre-made and, they'd had to make me another one without butter, they'd have to pass the charge onto me. I think this was awful, especially when it was said by both staff members with such a bossy attitude. All we did was eat as fast as we could to get out of there. It spoiled such a great day. I'm sure this review will attract a tart response from the owner as I notice so many other honest but not necessarily glowing TripAdvisor reviews do for other establishments. The bottom line is that I thought we were only asked to pre-order sandwich and scone choices as they are a fairly small business and need to know numbers in advance to ensure enough stock. I get that. (Although when we did originally book my husband ordered chocolate cake but that wasn't on this afternoon so obviously pre-ordering works for BBTR but not their customers!) AT NO TIME were we ever told we were pre-ordering so they could make the sandwiches in advance. I know the owner will probably reply they work this way so the kitchen isn't overwhelmed. I can understand that, too. BUT what I do object to was the awful way I was told and that I wasn't told in advance that the sandwiches would be pre-made. I naturally assumed they were fresh - meaning made on our arrival - as it is STATED ON THEIR OWN MENU THAT SANDWICHES ARE MADE FRESH TO ORDER. If we had been told I would have mentioned I don't like butter in sandwiches when I booked. So we have had to pay extra for the way they organise their kitchen - something we have no knowledge or control over. Actually this isn't a good idea as the sandwiches were dry. We were going to book a Christmas afternoon tea but after this experience we changed our minds. They lost about £70 of business because they were so rude and petty. Not a good way to treat good customers. We have spent well over £200 in this tea room over the last 4 weeks but we won't be back now. that was a bit of a cheek as we were paying so much for one sandwich, one scone and a mini slice of cakeFor anyone wishing to enjoy an Afternoon Tea at Bracklesham Bay Tea Rooms and Garden we would suggest you refer to our clear information laid out on our website. Please go to the menu page and then under 'AFTERNOON TEAS AND CREAM TEAS' heading NOT as quoted in the above review our 'lunchtime' menu.'AFTERNOON TEAYour afternoon tea will come with a selection of our sandwiches unless you request your choice or dietary requirements at the time of booking'We have always prepared our afternoon teas slightly before your arrival to minimize both yours and fellow customer's waiting time. Also please be aware that due to the presentation and dressing process involved, the preparation of an afternoon tea takes condiderably more time than a sandwich from our ' lunchtime menu'. It has nothing to do with stock availability. Please note that we do butter our sandwiches in the traditional way as is standard practice in most UK food outlets.Should anyone anyone need assistance to order their Afternoon Tea having read our website, please do ring us on 01243 699915. I take great pride in the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff and it is often nicer to book your Afternoon Tea by talking to us directly.Bracklesham Bay Tea Rooms and Garden

We stopped in on a very windy and rainy day, expecting (from the outside) a low key and average lunch....how wrong we were! The serving staff were polite and helpful, despite being busy, service was quick, fresh and hot and the whole atmosphere was warm and friendly. Food offering was varied and large portion sizes too! Dogs, families, children....all welcome in this deceptively large Inn. Definitely needs a return visit!

We thought long and hard about where we should go today for an excellent Sunday roast and decided it had to be Russells and we were DEFINITELY not disappointed. We both had roast lamb with mint sauce, Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, a gorgeous selection of lovely vegetables and what tasted like home made gravy from the meat juices. Wow ... thank you once again to all the lovely smiling faces who greeted us ... we can't wait to return soon. Julie x

Hadnât been in to Drift-In for a while - the last time I poked my nose in a blast of fried food pushed it quickly back out... On this occasion the air was clear as it we were having a late lunch. We just had salads but they were generous in size and theyâd not skimped on the tasty interesting ingredients, as is so often the sin. Service was friendly and efficient. And good value for money too. Just hope they keep the Ventaxia going, or better still leave the fry-ups to the Boulevard further down the road (whose door Iâve never darkened...)

Described in The Sunday Telegraph as 'The Best Beach Café in the World', Billy's on The Beach is a fully licensed beach cafe with fantastic views, just along the beach from East Wittering with good parking, great staff, and tasty beachside food. Everythin
Always a very friendly and welcoming service by the team. Even when they are really busy. Lovely food, always hot and happy to accommodate requests by little ones to change the menu :-) Fast service and a relaxing environment. The only downside (which is outside of the owners control). There are often people camping in the car park for the morning sea views. Which means there can be lots of rubbish, smells from people cooking breakfast (not always pleasant) and washing hanging everywhere. It is a real shame.

The Boulevard has been part of the Christmas family since 1979 and is currently owned and run by me Lucy, and my brother Luke. We serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner everyday, 7 days a week. Our menu includes lots of fresh fish and homemade dishes as well a
Really nice cafe / restaurant in East Wittering, generous portions, friendly service, wide range of food on offer: fish and chips, burgers, salads, toasties, jacket potatoes, also serves alcohol. Seems unsure what it is, itâs a seaside cafe, with great breakfast and lunch options, however serving alcohol and opening into the evening sets it as a restaurant / bar. So itâs a little confused, but it was busy on a Monday night (shuts at 8), deep fried Brie wedges were very generous and halloumi sticks very good; jacket potato was good and Selsey crab and calamari salad very good. It was very warm in there, possibly for the older customers ! Also very bright, no subtle lighting! All in all very good for what it is, whatever that is!

An independently run, flexitarian restaurant nestled metres back from one of the South Coastâs favourite beach side spots, East Wittering. Our concept - vegetables come first. This comes with no lack of imagination, taste, texture or flavour. To ensure a
Superb âvegetarianâ restaurant with options for fish and meat eaters. We were staying next door in an Airbnb cottage while on holiday in East Wittering, so it was very handy. The food was amazing, service was excellent, the vibe, atmosphere and feel of the place was superb. My wife is vegetarian, but I am not, but I ate vegetarian and it was superb. We shared a small baked Camembert and flatbreads with a homemade chilli style hummus, very very good. Mains were the peach, nuts and goats cheese salad for Suzy, and the pan fried gnocchi, broccoli, asparagus, carrots and cashew âcheeseâ sauce for me. We shared sides of halloumi and patatas bravas. All excellent, a fantastic looking, and tasting plate of food. We shared a bottle of very good Malbec, and service was excellent. Canât say enough good things about this place.Hello! A quick thank you for your very kind words - it means the world to us to hear all feedback from happy customers. See you again for a feast soon! - Pippa and the team

Estabished in 1856 The Crown Inn has been the heart of Selsey village for over 150 years. We take pride in serving great value pub grub in an amazing atmosphere welcome to families, dog's, the occasional drinker and someone looking for live entertainment.
Place fairly empty, service slow and a lot more expensive than our last visit, steak well seasoned, that suited me but not the other person on our table that ordered 'Surf, Turf & Cluck'
