Reviews on British food in St. Albans, England, United Kingdom. St Albans /sənt ˈɔːlbənz/, /seɪn ... / is a city in Hertfordshire, England, and the major urban area in the City and District of St Albans. It lies east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield, about 20 miles (32 km) north-northwest of central London, 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Welwyn Garden City and 11 miles (18 km) south-southeast of Luton. St Albans was the first major town on the old Roman road of Watling Street for travellers heading north, and it became the Roman city of Verulamium. It is a historic market town and is now a dormitory town within the London commuter belt and the Greater London Built-up Area.

I really like this restaurant. I have eaten several times and never been disappointed. The food decor and setting is very good but this week the experience was spoilt by the Musak being played that was out of keeping with the ambience of the restaurant. It was dreary mechanical sounds. We complained to the waitress but nothing happened. Next time i will check on their music playlist before eating there again

As an old coach house that dates back to 1758, The Green Dragon became a pub several years later, steeped in history, with original features including the low beams and the fire place in the bar area. Julie has been the owner of The Green Dragon for 10 ye

Visited the pub on Sunday 1/9/19, it was a pleasure, the staff were really good, really friendly, the Landlord was very attentive and the Sunday roasts were brilliant. My wife and I both had the chicken roast and can honestly say it is the best pub Sunday roast we have had this year.We are visiting from Australia and every weekend we try a local pub and this one is a gem, will definitely go again before we return to Australia in January.Give it a go you wonât regret it.Gary

This was our first time to St Albans and thought we would try this place as it had received such good reviews. I had booked a table by email before going and ended up ringing twice in the day to change the time, but staff were very friendly and accommodating with this. As it happened, there was plenty of room when we arrived, even though itâs quite small (it was only 6pm though). Just burgers on menu, but really interesting choices and nice selection of sides. BBQ sauce is good, great fries and good quality burgers. Buffalo chicken wings are nicely hot, but sour cream dip would have been nice (not a fan of blue cheese). Also the onion rings were not home made, so werenât great. No alcohol licence, but you can BYOB and they donât charge corkage. Old style sour cherry coke was lovely! Staff very friendly and smiley. A great meal, thanks!

Great friendly staff, in the middle of town. Menu is selective but they will happily cater around your needs. Went on Saturday lunchtime and place is busy. Lovely ales and wine list. Would love to go again. Had duck scotch egg, soup and fish for mains. Perfectly cooked. Thanks for such good service

First, the positives. Busy and buzzy, even on a wet Tuesday night. Staff all very nice, balancing attentiveness with not being too intrusive. And probably the best steak had outside of London. Not US quality but good. The highlight though was the scallop starter!Steaks were well cooked though we found one steak a little tougher than we expected- even with steak knife a little difficult to cut in places. Chips were strangely hard to cut as well! And not cheap - 2 courses for 3 people was £200, with just a drink each. At that price point, I think we expected a little more to be honestIâd say definitely go but not sure weâd return.

Looking for a hearty brunch, quick bite to eat or a steaming cup of coffee? The George Street Canteen has all you need. Tucked away in the heart of St Albans City centre this family run cafe serves wonderfully comforting home made food speciality coffee a
The Canteen does not have a large indoor seating area, but the outside is beautiful and overlooks the St Albans Cathedral. The food is fresh, healthy, and very well prepared with the brunch items a particular favourite. The hidden nature of George Street means that you are a 5 min walk to the heart of St Albans and the marketplace, but tucked away in a quiet garden. The service is always lovely and this is one of the place I love to take visitors to St A. My only disappointment is that it not open for dinner.
