A traditional public house serving traditional food, the ambience was underwhelming! The beer was OK. The food was OK. If anything, the portions were mean, given pie and mash was £9.69! It was very evidently microwaved. The place was OK. The décor is tired and slightly tatty. The Toilets were OK. Tight for space, there is little room in them to get in and out and do what you do. If you appreciate wall to wall piped TV sport with multi-screens on different channels, and appreciate the confusion of piped commentary with different pictures then this is the place for you. But hardly relaxing. MEDIA OVERLOAD. All in all, very average. Not somewhere that I propose to return to any day soon.

All of our food is freshly prepared in house by our talented brigade of chefs. We are lucky to be located in an area rich with excellent local produce. This is reflected in our menuâs that change seasonally enabling us to use ingredients when they are at
Visited The Royal Oak twice during our week-long stay in Ripon, both times for evening meals.Very friendly service with staff who engaged well with diners. Food was very tasty, fresh and no long waits for food. On first looking at the menu, it didn't appear that there were too many options for me as a Pescetarian, but the waitress was quick to highlight dishes that could be easily altered to exclude the meat, which was appreciated.Quite nice decor; tables were a bit close together in some instances - the next table would hear everything you said - but not too big a deal. Prices ok, not the cheapest but not overly expensive either. All in all, would recommend a visit.

A warm and friendly pub which specialises in great service and fantastic homemade food. All our produce is sourced locally where possible and our chefs strive to make new and exciting dishes
We were staying nearby and decided to come here for Sunday lunch. A good decision! Nice location out in the countryside with plenty of parking. Lovely place inside and nicely thought out and well decorated. Staff were all very friendly. We had three courses all of which were excellent. Well presented food and taste to match. Could do with more places like this one! Excellent.and could have stayed all day.

MY family and I had Brunch here today. The staff are friendly, helpful, attentive and hard working. The café was spotlessly clean and the food was freshly served and very tasty. One of the family wanted only certain items ,on her breakfast, she got exactly what she wanted. We would recommend this little gem and will definately go again.

Chimes Cafe - only open during the day
We called in just after 12.15 as they had some tables free.Things appeared a little chaotic other diners were unable to order quiches & fruit scones the staff including chef / owner scurrying back & forth up & down the corridor every minute or two.Young waitress not particularly friendly/ helpful or informative in suggesting suitable alternatives. On the positive side the older staff were obviously trying hard to overcome the shortcomings and checking customers were served & happy, tea & teacake(fruit scone substutute)were both nice as was my wife's latte which was served hot.Looking at other reveiws I'm persuaded there was probable cause & this is not the usual level of service.Hi Sorry for today we did have a problem with staffing today. Stretching the team to its limits. We really pleased you could see past this and still give us a fair and honest review. We hope to see you again in the future. All the best Mark

Was fortunate enough to secure a table for 4 tonight for Indian tapas night This is a bring your own wine or beer evening and enjoy beautiful home made Indian food The restaurant was completely full plus a couple of tables outside on the rear terrace The food was divine - poppadums, chicken and mango salad, home made pickles, samosas, lamb and chicken kebabs, all sorts of exquisitely wonderful Indian delicacies. Real Indian family food - not a madras or korma to be seen Subtle spices which were blended cleverly The atmosphere was superb The food was genuinely outstanding Looking forward to our next visit
