Enjoy lunch and dinner in either the cosy bar or delightful oak panelled restaurant where you can enjoy award winning food that uses the very best of locally sourced ingredients. Outside seating at the front fro sunny days and a lounge for after dinner dr
Visiting in the area and went for Sunday lunch having been here before. Bar is cozy and a good atmosphere. A good buzz about the place. Serving staff efficient and attentive. Food was good, prepared in good time and good portions. Would go again.

We had Sunday lunch here, recently, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cafe is spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The beef brisket was absolutely delicious with very generous portions, and very good value for money. The whole atmosphere about the place was very pleasant, and we are looking forward to a return visit.Thoroughly recommended.
We had a lovely lunch at Oliver Twistâs. The ladies that run this little gem are so friendly and helpful. Everything is homemade, even the ham! The coleslaw is to die for and the home made pastries are delicious. We were lucky enough to be able to sit in and it was wonderful. They are in a new premises and are still sorting out more seating. They were doing a roaring trade with take-outs for locals and passers by. We wish them all the best in the future and if we are ever in Barnard Castle again...weâre coming back for more coffee, sausage rolls and flapjacks!

Stopped in for a quick lunch and coffee before an afternoon walk in Teesdale. Chose a panini and latte, both came quickly and the side salad was excellent. I think the chips are freshly prepared. Have been several times for dinner, it would be nice if there were some more vegetarian options. The omelet is plenty filling though! Can sometimes park outside but there is plenty of free parking at the either and of the road in Middleton.

Modern Cafe & Bistro, great value for money, food freshly cooked to order. Eat in or Take Away. Also we are a local award winning cafe within Teesdale.
We arrived unannounced as a party of 8 and a dog on an already busy day and were immediately accommodated by the very friendly staff. We all had coffees and most had either jacket potato or sandwich and all thoroughly enjoyed their lunch in this pretty little village

Last minute booking in the micro barn at the side of the crown pub. So lovely, clean and ever so cute inside, everything that you needed. Small living room area, toilet and shower room, plus bedroom.Evening meal at the crown, food was magnificent and I would highly recommend

A friendly, happy little café in the charming village of Middleton in Teesdale. We make lovely homemade food, daily specials & snacks with a good selection of scones and cakes. GF, V, & Vegan.
We stopped in here for coffee, tea and cakes....Lovely welcoming staff, Beautiful cakes, clean and cosy if a little cramped with the tables being so close to each other....but it is a small shop and it doesn't detract from good service .Toilets are on the first floor and there is seating outside when the weather is more favourable....Will call again hopefully for a more substantial meal....many thanks..Thanks for your kind review. Yes we only have a small room downstairs but can cater for larger groups too as have more tables upstairs, which tend to be used at busy times

The good... the menu is extensive and thereâs something for everyone. I had the seafood pie and my partner a pizza. Both were excellent. The menu wouldnât be out of place somewhere quite a lot swankier. The staff are attentive and engaging. Itâs a dog friendly bar and hotel. There will definitely be dogs on site. For me - this is a good thing. For others it may not be. Itâs a great location. In a beautiful setting. Just down the road from High Force waterfall. The bad... this hotel needs a complete makeover. And I imagine this hasnât happened due to the sheer amount of cost and work involved. Everything about the interior requires updating. From the outside itâs very charming. The breakfast is probably the most boring and tasteless I can remember having. The coffee comes in a cafetière that may as well have no filter. Itâs a shame. The menu, quality of food and staff is the only thing that drags my score up a little.Dear nth-sth,Thanks for your positive comments. Apologies that you didn't enjoy your breakfast; we usually get great feedback for breakfast. For the price paid it is all freshly cooked to order from high quality local ingredients; no cheap sausages or black pudding for us. We use cafetieres for coffee and they do occasionally malfunction; sorry about that.Regards,Dave
