We prebooked a table for a midweek birthday celebration.Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly helpful young staff. There was an excellent choice of food on the menu along with some specials.Service was very efficient and staff very good.the food wasn't too long on arrival and was very good and enough.the prices were very reasonable and worth the money

Having driven around for a while to find somewhere to eat and drink in from the previous night. My husband thought it would be most appropriate to dine here where Charles Dickens most frequented. As I had previously booked, we came a little early for our meal and subsequently were squashed in with a much bigger table of people which made it slightly awkward and uneasy to eat our meals. Nevertheless we had ordered a pie each. I myself having had the fish pie the mussels where delicious, however I felt there was too much salmon. My husband had the steak pie which he loved, however, he did find the mashed potato a little on the lumpy side.

Set in a little village in lovely surroundings we had an early lunch. Menu very varied but also a short menu with 2 courses and coffee/tea for £14. Food nicely cooked and presented, staff friendly, service just right, we thoroughly enjoyed it. More and more people arrived But still quiet so you could hear yourself speak. Will definitely remember this one.

Visited for a last minute Sunday Roast and was accommodated. First time here for a Roast. Have been before and never been disappointed, and this was no exception. Had a chicken roast dinner with all the trimmings. Iâd have to say this was easily the best Sunday Roast Iâve ever had away from home. The meat, Carrot and Swede purée and gravy were real highlights. The only things preventing a 5 star are the home made Yorkshire pud, whilst impressively sized, was burned and the roast potatoes were also a little burned. It was near the end of service, and we were last minute, so it may weâll have been different had we booked and arrived earlier. This really didnât detract much from a great meal. They still need to commission the fireplace in the dining area! It would really add to the homely feel.

Super place for a standard pub meal. All the usuals and we had a range, all of which were great. The Lion does not pretend to be a fancy restaurant, but the food was tasty, hearty and fitted the bill. The real ale was well looked after and enjoyable and dogs are welcome. Staff were helpful and friendly. We will be going back.Thank you for your review. You have hit the nail on the head. we do not pretend to be a restaurant that serves drink, but rather a proper pub that serves good hearty reasonably priced food!!

A pub with a restaurant
Visited last time about a year ago. This was our 3rd visit. Lunch sitting outside on the terrace. I said before, it's so pretty and overlooks the beautiful windmill next door. The food again was very good and not a bad price. Skinny fries are still delicious! Nice friendly staff and thoroughly enjoyed.Hi Gill,I am glad you came back to visit us and it is lovely to hear you enjoyed your experience with us!We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!Kind RegardsDuke ChidgeyGeneral Manager

We met here this Sunday for our grandsons christening celebration we arrived about 1300 and had asked for our preordered food for 1400 food arrived at 1500 after chasing - buffet came out first then about 20 minutes later two special orders of hot food (due to allergies) however we had two three year old children with our party and their food (which again was pre ordered )arrived at 1545 - why was the children's food not sent out first ? Very disappointed .. After the children had eaten we ordered ice cream for them 45 minutes later it arrived , just not good enough ! Finally I have never seen so much food that was put out for the buffet not sure what was ordered but it was a shocking waste

I visited The George for dinner with some female friends. The restaurant was busy but there was only one young waitress, whose name was Josephine, serving. She worked extremely hard and despite that fact that she was on her own, we did not have to wait too long for anything. The meal was lovely but the only disappointment was that the garlic mushroom starter we had all previously enjoyed was no longer available.
