The Compasses is a Pub / Restaurant in Abbots Langley . A family run business since 1983 . We cater for all tastes including fresh fish , pizzas , steaks , burgers , salads , sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes, daily specials etc etc Please take a look
Itâs been decades since Iâve used this pub and Iâm sure itâs had many makeovers and changes of landlords since then. The latest incarnation is modern without losing its pub ambience. This is very much a pub that serves food, rather than a restaurant that serves drinks. The main bar area is big with some seating and there are other seating areas. What I remember as a beer garden has been covered over, or at least a big part of it has been, but there still is some outside seating for hot weather. Service is friendly and efficient. Thereâs a good range of beers and lagers, including some craft beer and real ales. Not the biggest car park, but there is also some on street parking outside and nearby. Thanks for your kind review . No change of ownership since 1983 which is very very unique in this day and age and yes a few makeovers in between. You are a 100% correct we are a free house pub that serves food not a restaurant that sells beer . Regards Tony

At Miller & Carter, we know a thing or two about steak, in fact, you could say that we're one of the best steakhouses in Kings Langley. But we'll let you judge that for yourselves... Our Kings Langley steakhouse is the perfect place to treat someone speci
The steakhouse is a massive improvement on the previous incarnation. Gone are the lingering smells of chip fat, crikey the new Miller and Carter steakhouse is most welcome. Donât expect too cheap a meal, but there are reasonably priced options available. My steak was delicious, but not cheap at £26. My wine choice was Shiraz, not too special,my wife enjoyed her Spanish Sauvignon Blanc. We both had a top notch crime brûlée. Service was good. Expect children in this particular restaurant, the adjacent Premier Inn is in the Harry Potter vicinity, but not a problem. We will return, but not weekly, a little pricey!

This beautiful 18th century pub & restaurant serves freshly prepared food daily from Tuesday to Saturday plus a Sunday roast with several alternatives from 12 til 3pm Sunday's. Our steaks are cut from mature Hereford, American Rump or Aberdeen Angus beef
This popular local C18th village pub has a regular diary of popular themed events, so it is often worth checking what is on when booking a meal. The pub has a good range of pub grub on the menu, all at very reasonable prices. The beer is kept very well and the pub offers a range of really good bitters that cost £4/pint, as well as a very wide selection of gins! Being quite old, the building has numerous low beams, so tall people should take care. There is a good range of gluten free meals available, but vegetarians may find the menu a bit limited, unless they eat fish. The starters are £6-7 and are generally very plentiful - especially the baked camembert, which is to share! The warm duck salad is really good. Overall, the quantity of food as starters is very good and is almost as big as some other pub's main courses!Besides the main menu, there is also a selected range of specials on offer, also at a very good price. Most main courses cost up to about £15-16, but their steaks are £23-24, so there is big price gap here. Most main courses come with plentiful vegetables and accompaniments, but the streaks are only accompanied by one mushroom, one tomato and some watercress, although sides are available at an extra cost. Saying that, the steaks are about 8-10ozs and cooked to your choice. The liver can be recommended! Most main dishes can be ordered with (slightly!) reduced portions, as, with the exception of the steaks, the amount of food provided is plentiful and should satisfy most people's appetites! If you can face it, after wading through starters and a main course, there is a selection of traditional pub grub type desserts available, including a wide range of locally sourced ice-creams and sorbets; desserts cost £6-7 and are good value. The wine list is good and generally at very reasonable prices. One worth having is the sherry trifle, but whatever has happened to the traditional British desserts such as bread and butter pudding, spotted dick and other such delicacies!? Very few pubs do them any more!Children's menus are available and are about £6 eachUnlike some places, the restaurant area is adequately lit and the menu is printed in a sensibly sized font, so reading it was not a problem! The seating is well spaced, so tables are not on top of each other and there is good room to move between them - especially useful for people with limited mobility and/or wheelchairs. I was in a quite big party and we were on one of their larger tables; unfortunately it was a bit unstable, with the table top moving if you leant on one end - a bit like a Ouija board...! The chairs are not designed for comfort, but it is a pub after all - not a high class restaurant!Service was very attentive and quick, despite the restaurant being very busy and close to capacity.Overall, a really good and traditional local high Street pub that serves excellent food and very reasonable pricesThank you for writing us such a great review on your time here with us at The Bell, we pride ourselves on our food and service. We are so pleased your party enjoyed their meals. I will pass your comments on to all the staff and we hope to see you back at The Bell very soon, Kind RegardsNatilee

Built in 1739, The Boot is a cosy, traditional English country pub restaurant, complete with an Inglenook fireplace, traditional bar area and newly extended restaurant "Wellingtons". Whether you're after a quality pint from our selection of real ales from
Had fish and chips, thought it poor quality. Cold chips and fish poor quality. Also expensive for a poor quality meal. Service was fineHello,We are extremely sorry to read your review and would like to request a few further details? I have spoken with our staff from the last few days and none can recall receiving a complaint on the Fish and Chips, can you please confirm you informed a member of staff about your dish? Our Tuesday evening Fish and Chips are on special offer of only £7, so I deduct it is not from then. A member of our team would have been more than happy to replace your dish if they had known! I am glad to hear service was good, we pride ourselves on excellent, personable service :) All of our food is freshly prepared and cooked to order so it is surprising to hear the chips were cold. Our haddock is fresh and as you can see from previous reviews it is usually raved about. Please can you email us with further details, we would of course appreciate more information and a chance to redeem ourselves? Please email - [email protected] :) Thank you so much!

I ate here recently on a Saturday lunchtime with friends. There's a good range of typical pub dishes on the menu, and prices are reasonable (drinks are very reasonably priced). The food was OK, although some dishes were a little overcooked. Portions are large. Service is friendly.

Another wonderful night at Prime, as always service and food on another level, we were greeted and seated by a lovely Host who immediately sent over our waitress for the eve, her name was Sorina, she took our drinks order and arrived with a lovely glass of Prosecco for us all complimentary which was so nice. We shared the starters Pate and Camembert between the 4 of us, there was plenty as accompanied by the delicious warm cheese scones which also are complimentary. I had the burger which is always so fresh served on a light Brioche Bun, my 3 family members all had steaks, a fillet, a Ribeye and a Sirloin, all were cooked to perfection, the sides were hot, we always have a great meal at Prime, this was the first time my Son had eaten here and he is a real foodie, he absolutely loved it. Staff always are so friendly and polite, Sorina was fabulous tonight. Many thanks and we will see you all again soon.

We received warm, friendly, efficient and extremely polite service. Adam served us our excellently flavoured coffee sitting in the quiet rear garden. It is rare to speak to someone who is so enthusiastic about his chosen profession.I wish him well and if the fare is as good as the coffee, he is on to a winner.

I have attended Boxmoor foodie events several times, the food is always of an amazing standard and I am always amazed by the fantastic flavour combinations which is more of an art form than cooking. The people you meet at these events are fun loving foodies so you immediately have something in common so even if attending alone you are immediately part of one big group. I highly recommend this event and canât wait for the next one
