Your first time here you might find us a little difficult to find as the pub is down an un-adopted lane in the bottom of a valley, backing on to the Bourne stream. "The Bat" is a traditional country/village pub retaining the charm and atmosphere of what a
Nice place, nice people, nice food. I had mutton curry which was really nice, so much better than most pub curries. My wife had trout which was less successful because the samphire was tough. It turns out their supplier has switched from wild to farmed and it's not as tender as it was. So if they know there's a problem why are they still serving it? Desserts were good although a few of the ice-cream flavours were unavailable.Despite the minor issue we liked it and we'll go back.

We have visited this restaurant many times and used to find it excellent.Unfortunately on the last three visits it has not lived up to expectation. On one occasion the fish was not fresh, On the second visit two identical meals turned up completely different - one good and one not good. On the same occasion one (hot) starter was cold. On the third visit the food quality was mediocre.. Standards have clearly slipped. The waiting staff are polite and the ambience is beautiful. We often visit the same chain in nearby Basingstoke and the standards there are good and more consistant.

We came here for lunch on Saturday after visiting Alice Holt forest, which is about a 10 min drive away. We had booked a table inside but with 3 kids and 3 dogs in tow and the weather being beautiful we managed to get a table in the garden, where there is a bar and also a large play area for the kids. The inside and the pub terrace are lovely, but are definitely suited more to adults, the garden was where most families gathered. Unfortunately the garden menu is much more limited than the inside menu, which was a shame, with the choices limited to 4 - burger, chicken pie, fish and chips and veggie option Gnocci. Thankfully we all found a choice to our liking. In the garden you pay at the bar and give a table number.Food wise there were no complaints, the burger i had was very tasty and worth the £15 it cost. the kids meals were also substantial and polished off. They have a large selection of beers and wines, and even better they have an onsite Brewery in the adjacent coach house, so they had 2 or 3 of their 'Tilford Brewery' products on tap in the pub.Overall, this is a really nice, family orientated pub which i would definitely come back to. Next time though i think i would try inside and have more choice.Hi Russy,Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and positive review, of your recent experience with us. We hope to see you again very soon!Kind regardsKatie

We have been here a couple of times now for Sunday lunch - with family and friends - as its reasonably local. The food is excellent and well cooked. Beware - portions are quite large, so don't eat beforehand! The menu has a lot of choices, and the actual Sunday roasts are delicious. We were impressed that we were asked how we wanted the beef cooked. Nice choice of veggies, and the best mashed potato I've had for ages.Lovely starters - definitely recommend the scotch egg.Sadly, have only managed the desserts once - but again really great.Staff are friendly and service is good.In the summer we took the grandchildren and sat in the garden which was lovely.

We visited this pub with our friends after seeing it advertised on a local Facebook page and we were not disappointed. What a fantastic little setting, down a step drive sits this little jewel in the Surrey countryside. We all opted for the Sunday Roast and what a great size portion you get served with fresh vegetables, two of the party had the beef, one the lamb and the other ham. All of us commented how nice each meat was. Puddings are freshly made on site, again beautiful, being stuffed from the main each couple shared a pudding. They have a couple of beers available. The unique selling point is the actual donkeys in the garden, obviously fenced in !!! They have carrots on a table so that you can feed them. The reason I only gave four stars is the room in the conservatory, it all just felt a little crammed and you are on top of each other other than that it would be 5.We will definitely go again....
