City centre cellar wine bar and restaurant with gardens
7 of us ate here on a Saturday night having struggled to make a table booking elsewhere. We were offered the table for 6.30 as they were fully booked that evening but we then had the table until 9pm, we weren't asked to vacate it. The menu offered a number of choices, with fish much in evidence. We all decided on mains and desserts, and the waitress explained that as all the dishes were freshly cooked we could make changes to the dishes, and there may be a short wait whilst they were prepared. Everything came as ordered and was of a good quality. The wine was sensibly priced. The 2 waitresses who served us were friendly and helpful, dealing with requests competently and cheerfully.Overall, a pleasant experience and good value for money.

A Semi-Rural Pub Located In The Heart Of Picturesque Longdown. Serving Fresh Food, Local Beers And Fine Wines
I've already reviewed the Lamb at Longdown but having been there yesterday for Sunday roast I think it warrants a second review because it was a simply great Sunday lunch.Because I don't eat red meat I had the vegetarian option of roasted celeriac, with goats curd and pesto. To be honest I would often avoid the vegetarian 'roast' option if chicken or turkey are on offer but I am so glad they weren't because the vegetarian option that I had was simply gorgeous. The celeriac was cooked to perfection, the goats curd was soft, tasty and creamy, and the pesto was so tasty, all of this was served on a bed of small [wild?] mushrooms and topped with, I think, crispy onion. So often vegetarian food is an afterthought but not here. It was served with a platter of help yourself perfectly cooked veg - cabbage, carrots, green beans etc, cauliflower cheese and fabulous roast potatoes - definitely a 5 a day job. My son woofed down his roast beef, all the veg, and announced several times that the roasties were the best. Between us we polished off everything which meant no room for pudding so I can't comment on them this time [but they were yummy on all previous visits].It's brilliant that they are keeping the standards so high at this place. We'll be back on a Sunday again [and again]...

Cosy gastropub and brewery with a covered balcony, tiered garden and a menu of locally sourced British dishes.
Canât really complain about anything as there is nothing wrong with the roasts served here (and good gluten free options available too!) but canât help thinking theyâre a bit âschool dinnerâ style. Huge portions, slightly over cooked meat, thick gloopy gravy, kind of anaemic potatoes, cheap vegetables like peas and carrots rather than any dark greens or any interesting veg like roasted beetroot etc. Would come back if we were starving hungry but wouldnât come back for a âqualityâ roast.

Overnight stay here having not been for several years. pPleasant and helpful welcome to our comfortable too. Went down for dinner with the same format as before - drinks, with a wide range available, in the lounge with delicious canapés. Decided to have the 'no choice' six course taster rather that the 4 course with choices, as the dishes on offer with the 6 course suited us well. Decided to share a flight of wine between two of us - as we have discovered elsewhere, lady manager a bit hesitant but we persisted and she kindly gave us our rations in a glass each, and we found the quantities very acceptable. and then a superb meal followed - seafood and fish, beef for our main and a really good range of mainly local cheeses followed by an excellent desert. A well balanced meal of sensible size servings, in our view, expertly prepared and served. The next morning, breakfast in their large 'conservatory', again very well presented and served, although the pace was definitely rather relaxed considering they appeared at the time to only be preparing food for us. One always returns to a favourite place with a little trepidation in case standards have slipped: at the Salutation they definitely haven't - our experience this time was at least as good as the lovely experience we have had there in the past.

For a taste of the Mediterranean without leaving the West Country look no further than Exeterâs The Conservatory. With huge windows obscured by white blinds, tall exotic plants and Swedish-meets-French countryside painted furniture you almost feel it woul
This was our first visit to Exeter in many years, so I looked to Trip Advisor to see where to eat. I must say this unique quirky hidden gem lived up to the high praise of its reviews. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive, although it must be admitted that we dined on a Wednesday evening and it was very quiet. We took advantage of the Early Bird dinner menu. My wife chose mackerel and beetroot salad for starters and raved about the accompanying horseradish mousse. I had tomato and mozzarella salad which had a lively zingy salsa verde dressing. For mains, the goatâs cheese and tomato parcel with sweet potato hash and the Cornish hake fillet with Thai green velouté and rice noodles were both perfectly cooked and memorable. All this was washed down with the local Pebblebed white wine, a perfect accompaniment and very reasonably priced for such a good English wine. I should endorse other comments regarding the modest exterior. Donât be put off - see photo of the interior below including the unique Elizabethan decorative wall panels.

The counter staff and chef where absolutely fantastic, polite, & pleasant. Nothing it seems was too much trouble for them and the breakfast delivered was freshly cooked, with added chips at my request, which was not on the menu.Thank you so much! X

A nice country pub with friendly and attentive service. Had the Fly and Dive and the Duck for mains; cannot rate it highly enough. Delighted with both dishes, nicely presented, strong well-balanced flavours. Good wine list - had the Malbec which was as described and for under £20 excellent. It isn't huge and so you need to book and no car park but we found plenty of street parking close by. Will be going back next time we are in Devon and so should you! Thanks for the kind review - it means a lot to us hereKind regardsAdam
