Friendly, well run, stopped of for lunch. Food was prepared in good time, to a high standard. Would highly recommend.

A friendly country pub set between the rolling green hills of Cranbourne Chase and the New Forest, overlooking the village cricket pitch, with six beautiful rooms, two self catering cottages, a dinning hall, oak-framed conservatory and a tap-room with the
The food was tasty but quite expensive. I would have liked an alternative to Brioche for the burgers.

Under new management. After a period of refurbishment we have recently reopened. Offering fresh local produce cooked to order. Pub classics done in a modern style to something a little bit different.
A very well presented pub, more of a restaurant really. Great parking brings you into the Cartwheel, which is very well decorated throughout. We had a carafe of white wine- nice idea. Then three courses of very well cooked locally sourced food. Lovely evening with great service.Thank you for your glowing review. We have only been open for 6 months following an extensive renovation. We are proud of how it has lightened up the space without losing the feel of a country Inn.Our food is as locally sourced as possible and along with the passion of our chefs it tells with the quality on he plate. I must not forget our attentive waiting staff who often go the extra mile to ensure great customer satisfaction.Hope to see you again in the near future. The Cartwheel Team

Famillies, Muddy Boots & dogs with well behaved owners are all most welcome. Quality home-cooked food using Local Produce, served alongside Hall & Woodhouse's Distinctive cask-conditioned ales and superb wines accompanied by the warmest welcome.
We were grateful to find a dog friendly pub about 1/2 mile from our bungalow let, and happily had drinks on our first day.Next day went back for lunch and drinks, unfortunately food was inedible, nobody asked about our food until they wanted to clear the table. We indicated it was inedible. We went to bar to settle our account, to be fair the manager did not charge us for food or drinks, That did not help the fact we were hungry, and she gave no apologyfor the dreadful food.. It seemed she had no interest in the fact she lost the moneyand custom that day and probably a few more days as well, because we would have returned.Thank you very much for your review Peter R, we are disappointed that you did not enjoy your experience with us. I am happy that my staff refunded your entire bill, as it is not always about making money. My staff always give their best efforts to help and I'm sorry you didn't feel it was the case on this occasion.

The Rose and Thistle a beautiful 16th Century thatched pub is nestled in the picture postcard village of Rockbourne on the outskirts of the New Forest. Outside is a lovely cottage garden to while away sunny days and watch the world go by. Inside is the pe
Quick and helpful service, as always in our experience. We chose to have main course and pudding and were happy to wait for the food to be prepared. As usual, it was well presented and came with separate seasonal vegetables alongside, included with the chosen items. A comfortable table, with NO music in the dining area (there's quiet music in the bar-service area, for those who enjoy it -- we don't).This is our chosen venue for eating out in this area.

Silver in the B&B Inn Award at The 2014 Dorset Tourism Awards, within this 16thC building, the friendly team describe it as a proudly traditional Dorset country Inn used by travellers and locals with all food sourced from within 30 miles. Amongst the wood
Stayed here for 2 nights recently with my husband to celebrate 40 years of marriage. Unfortunately when we arrived the room I had booked - The Cranborne Chase - was not reserved for us, despite several prior emails definitely booking this room and replies from the pub to confirm this. The room we were allocated was called Boveridge and it was OK - but a bit tatty in places and had a huge and very high bath, which is exactly what I did not want, I wanted a walk in shower - which the Cranborne Chase room had. The next day Paul said we could move into the Cranborne Chase room for our second night and the pub staff moved our stuff - they also offered a drink for the disappointment. Apart from this hiccup the food was excellent, the beds very comfy and the staff very friendly. The breakfast was delicious and obviously used fresh local produce. So all in all - a good stay - we would go again, just a shame about the room mix up.Dear Holiday wise. Many many thanks for your lovely review. Iâm glad we sorted everything and thank you for giving us the chance to do so. We were sorry too we could not cater for your Special Request. It would have meant declining another booking that went for three days and over lapped with your stay until the Saturday. This is the reason that hotels and inns never quarantee a request. Special Requests are typically classified like this statement from a well know hotel chains website. Any special requests that you make at the time of booking will be considered however, we cannot guarantee that these will be fulfilled. Your hotel will of course do their best to accommodate all requests but this is subject to availability. We will always try but we canât decline bookings to fulfill Special Requests. So glad we made up for this inability to fulfill your request and that you enjoyed the wine and our best room.

Fresh, local, seasonal produce is sourced as close as the Cranborne Estate. The resulting dishes are traditionally English with a dash of International. Mark has resurrected some traditional favourites and added his personal style. The menu changes on a re
Our return visit to La Fosse was just as superb as the first. Every moment of the visit was a delight, from the bottles of reasonably priced red & white wine to the absolutely stunning cheese platter at the end. My plaice starter was sublime but it was topped by the perfectly cooked pork belly accompanied by a very generous portion of crackling heaven. The attached pictures tell the story. It was a visual & culinary feast. Sadly we lost the receipt with the 10% off our next visit voucher.
