The Bell Inn

Reviewed By Martin S

We were taken to The Bell by neighbours last Friday. Whilst the pub looked great, tidy from the outside and well set out on the inside, that was the high point. I thought the service was quite poor with two middle aged waitresses scruffy in appearance and lacking in any conversation. The food was average and some of it expensive for what it was. Wine and beer selection very limited. Not the best experience I have had.Thank you for your review, we endeavour to listen to our customers experiences, as yours has been not to the Standard we expect our customers to receive, we will take this on board. We are very sorry you had a lack of choice in beers and wines, our staff are trained to give the customer tasters, of both Wine and real ale,so the customer has the freedom of choice. We believe we offer an extensive wine, ale. beer and cider choice.

The Hart

But there was too much mayo in the coleslaw. We played hunt the carrot and counted approximately 12 shavings of carrot. Ploughman's was okay but lacked any butter with roll. The rest of the food was alright but not that memorable. Shame as the decor and surroundings were lovely and could imagine lots of great nights in.. And the gents toilet reaked of noxious fumes that were similar to what you may find in an Amsterdam cafe or in a nuisance premises. And it sure did honk. I suspect it was staff because the clients in the pub were young families or considerably retired.Hi 504fredo,I am sorry to hear your experience at The Hart did not reach expectations and I will look into this. If you do visit again please make yourself known to me, and also if you do need anything towards you meal the staff would always be happy to get sauces or something like butter for you. It is unfortunate that there was a smell but I can assure you it would not have been our staff. They are extremely professional and we are strict with smoking, drugs & alcohol. Apologies for the stange smell but we have not experienced it since. We would love to amend this situation so please feel free to contact The Hart on 01237 441 474 and ask for Laura.Kind regards,LauraManagerThe Hart Inn

Popped in with family with the intention of having a meal. Two of us had a pot of coffee whilst the others shopped. Whilst it wasn’t overly busy we waited ages to be acknowledged and ages for our coffee. The staff appeared surly. Wouldn’t visit again.

Big place, and fairly central. Carpet throughout, which is idealif your four leggers are with you. Reasonable prices, and plenty served. No fancy stuff, just friendly service, easy chli, curry, pizza etc. Ideal if staying self catering and you want hot weekday supper. Cannot fault it for sustenance, but not really an 'experience'.

First visit here on new years eve and had the 6 course tasting menu. Have to say we were blown away by the standard of the food and the service was fantastic. We did find the decor a little stark and the ambience lacking for a new years eve. Thought it would all finish after midnight as new years eve but we paid and left by 11.30 as the evening had ended. Finding it can be tricky as the sat nav doesn't pin point it so suggest using Google maps if going in the dark!

We had two meals herre at the end of June and were thoroughly delighted with both. Also with Aaron at the bar, who remained cool, calm and collected in spite of the queues of people wanting to buy drinks. The fish and chips were superb, the mussels too and the curry faultess. The view in the evenings is unbeatable, a simply blissful place to unwind and well worth the uphill walk back to our Bed and Breakfast.Thank you for your kind reviews and your kind comments about Aaron who is a true asset to the hotel.Hopefully next time you will come and enjoy a stay at the Red Lion and have the full experience .

The prices were very good the service quick and surroundings clean and quaint The lady behind the bar lovely But honestly the food was below average maybe we got unlucky with what we chose 2 for 1 sausage in Yorkshire, chicken wrap and gammon the ingredients weren’t fresh and I’d guess were sourced quite cheaply wish we had waited and ate somewhere further down the hill or perhaps ordered something different Pleased you liked the place, such a shame you didn't enjoy your lunch.

Saturday night dinner out at this refurbished pub. Very busy when we got there, there are so many different rooms, its difficult to guage how big it really is.Menu looked good, but what actually came was different or indeed looked different, sort of neuve cuisine big bowls etc smallish amount of food in the middle.Amuse bouche between courses was a surprise, but nice.A nice dinner - different, but nice.Wine list not huge, but I would have thought something for everyone. Will have to try lunch next time

Booked a table here for Sunday lunch with family and our five dogs.Accessed by a narrow road but plenty of parking and road not that busy. Worth the journey.Met and shown to our table. Staff nice and friendly, place lovely and clean.Food, I ordered the pork bits in chilli and ginger as my starter. The best starter I have had in many a year. Tempura prawns was the other starter ordered and was just as good, not that either of us shared much with the others. The main meals where good too, clean plates for everyone. My wife chose the sticky toffee pudding. I was allowed a spoonful and that too was really nice.Lovely restaurant, beautiful food and with good service. Will certainly return, even if it is just for the pork bits.Thank you all.Thank you so much for your wonderful 5* review, we are so delighted you enjoyed your Sunday lunch with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon for the pork bites & perhaps your own portion of sticky toffee pudding!! Best wishes Susan
