Reviews on Brazilian food in Maputo, Maputo Province, Mozambique. Maputo, the lush capital of Mozambique, sits on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Founded as a port town by the Portuguese, the influence of travelers and traders from Africa, Asia, and Europe, has made the city a diverse and lively metropolis. The area is famous for its prawns in peri-peri sauce, a spicy concoction made from an especially hot African chili pepper. Calm down your taste buds afterwards with a beer at one of the many bars and nightclubs in the Fere de Populare neighborhood.

I stumbled into this place at night not understanding exactly what kind of restaurant it was. I found the staff very friendly, but the heavy meat menu didn't work for me. They did have a buffet with salads, fish, chicken, and pasta - overpriced for the quality of food, and it's so dark in the restaurant you can't see the dishes in the buffet. The deserts, cheeses, etc. are a separate fee. The specialty of the house is meat, and they bring it to your table and carve it fresh as many times as you want. I'm not a big meat eater, so I went for the buffet, and it was very disappointing... Even more disappointing was the bill - as they charged me extra for a small portion of cheese (as few bites) I had and other things I didn't even realize were an extra charge. They need to clarify charges!
Located on the ground floor of the new BaÃa Mall, next to the main entrance and to the other restaurants, the Brasa Rio offers various dishes of churrasco. Each one of them is very generous, delicious and very affordable. An excellent stop over when shopping at the Mall or for a quick lunch, as the service is fast and effective.

You can tell by the amount of Brazilian accents within this little "pastelaria" that the Brazilian food is authentic. From the coxinhas to the feijoada, Brazilian expats are already going there in great numbers. It's other great feature is the internet café in the entrance which is one of the most sought after in Maputo due to its fast download speed. This is not a place to come for a high-class restaurant, as it is more a diner/patessirie, but it's a great stop for a snack or coffee whilst checking emails, or a Brazilian specialty lunch or dinner.
