This is a lovely restaurant with a friendly and warm atmosphere, plus excellent food. I have also stayed in the locanda upstairs, where I had a large, comfortable room. Al Rio is mainly a steakhouse and - though I am not a huge meat-eater - the steak is absolutely delicious. I can recommend the fabulous gnocci with ragu and tomatoes - true comfort food. The house red wine is great - hearty and full bodied. All the staff are wonderfully friendly and the service is impeccable. I would highly recommend this restaurant and locanda.

The pasta dishes were excellent , HOWEVER, we decided to order the steak Florentine. Big mistake. It was all cut up into small pieces. Some were well done, some were under done. Some pieces were thin, some thick. Some of the thinner, over done pieces tasted rancid. It almost looked like two different cuts of meat. Then they charged $50 euros. Don't know if they did this because we were tourists. We would never go back. There are so many better restaurants in the area.

We came across this bustling place one sunday lunch and we got the very last table , it was packed with people on a sunny day on the terrace. All Italian families , lots of kids having fun , sons with elderly mothers and a few dogs under tables eyeing each other off. The terrace is magnificent the tables set under magnificent trees. The wait staff were run off their feet, but this did not detract from their efficiency. They were local people and keen to please , like most friendly country folk are. We were promptly served our bread , wine , water and waited not too long for our pasta . I had pasta l'anatra ...duck sauce . My darling had the pasta fungi , ....mushroom sauce. Both generous helpings of fresh pasta . We had vegetables to follow,and some grilled meat .I was watching people devour huge platters of grilled mixed meats like it was going out of style and the chicken looked really good. Making me wish I had that instead , because I always love roast chicken , oh well next time. The thing that will surprise you the most is the price. IT IS SOOOO CHEAP .. I felt embarrassed to be paying only 4.50 euros for a plate of pasta and 9 euros for a steak . No wonder the place is packed . Thats one of the great things in the area around where I live there are so many friendly family run restaurants where menu prices stood still , so to speak. These family owned trattorias been operating for years there are no high price rents to pay here in the countryside so the prices reflect that. There were no tourists there , it does not look as if one tourist has even reviewed this place ..its a genuine Italian style place where you can get a real look into how Italians do it on sunday lunch . Sure there are classier places at much higher prices in the area , but this place as far as value for money goes takes my number one vote, and I can't wait to bring a whole group of friends here for a nice lunch that everyone can afford .I loved this place . The mamas, the kids, the dogs , the wait staff , the noise , the bustle , the real people here. I will return

We only had antipasti and 4 pasta. These were just good, pastaperfectly cooked but we were definitely not blown away. At home, I prepare my pasta myself and sorry for the cook, but that's al lot better. If we return it'll be to taste the meat. Not expensive.

This is one of those places you hesitate to tell strangers about because it is so good that these people will keep coming back ... often and in great numbers. Then WE will have difficulty getting a reservation! Every dish, literally, is delicious, lovingly prepared and perfect. Of course it is not surprising that the meat is superb at Tolin Macelleria but also the accompanying first coarses and vegetable dishes are all worth a special journey. Of special note are the extraordinary pasta e fagioli, the tris di carne crudi and marinated beef tongue salad. Main courses not to miss are the fegato alla veneziano (the best we've ever tasted ... even in Venice!), vitello orecchio dell'elefante, the fiorentina, the costata di manzo or vitello or maiale. The desserts are all created and made by the beautiful and very talented Laura. The selection of wines and artisanal beers is very impressive. Listen carefully to Andrea's recommendations. You are always treated with great respect and courtesy by the warm and friendly Tolin family: Andrea, Laura, their equally beautiful and charming daughter Camilla, her brother and, on busy evenings, local friends. An experience not to be missed. Always a special evening.

The setting is lovely, the dining rooms lovely , the waiters happy , professional and helpful. BUT , THE FOOD DOES NOT MATCH THE PLACE !The pasta dishes were bland and tasteless . The stuffed zucchini flowers with porcini ricotta flavourless , the steak tartar machine blended and boring. The Branzino was dry , overcooked and tasteless. My friend did not eat it after two bites and the waiter did not ask her what was wrong , she is too polite to complain , but in the car going home she did. The grilled vegetables had been grilled where the fish had been , so the melanzane was fish flavoured , not good , not good. This restaurant needs a good cook , a new chef , someone with standards good enough to match the dining room presentation.There were also only about twenty diners here on a saturday night , when those that were not closed for vacation were fully booked out. What does that tell you. I just think it was a shame .... Il posto e piacevole, e arredato con buon gusto. E cura dei particolari. Anche l'esterno e bello. Ma il clienti va ad un ristoranti , vanno per mangiare. I piatti di pasta ( 3) sono senza sapore. il Branzino e troppo cotto , quindi secco, e senza sapore.La verdura grillata, a avuto contatto con pesche , probibalmente grilliate in lo stesso posto di la branzino , e resulta quindi scradevole. La steak tartar e trittata in machina e non e saporita. La problema con questa ristorante e di il posto e meraviglioso ma la cucina va adeguata. La proprietario devo fare un investimento sul lo Chef altrimenti.

Driven past this trattoria so many times and thought to stop. Tonight was invited by friends for dinner and I must say I'm sorry that I didn't consider it before. My fillet was cooked to perfection. We were all very happy with our meals!
