Find out what Barbecue restaurants to try in Skopje. After belonging to many empires over time (including Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and most recently Yugoslavian), Macedonia gained its independence in 1991, and Skopje, with about half a million people, is its largest city and capital. Despite its age, the city looks quite modern, owing to a massive 1963 earthquake that destroyed 75% of its buildings. Skopje has long been shared by Christians and Muslims, who still come together at the fascinating Old Bazaar, one of the Balkans' largest markets.

Distinctive food and excellent service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Amazing after parties and great music. We offer perfection with every bite and sip.
We were in Gnezdo two times. We have had some main dishes and the other time some sandwiches. Both of them were quite good.Waitresses can't speak english, which was quite surprising because of the trip advisor sticker. It is average place to eat.

Grate place in Debar Malo. Near the city centre. Great food, nice atmosphere, tradicional food and music. Be aware of the owner :).

It is more than average but it is not very good. The food was O.K. the service was O.K. The music was not something to write home about.
In Bohemian street (longer one, officially Zhivko Chingo, but not many taxi drivers in Skopje know street names) there are lot of restaurants but it seems two of them located on two sides of the street and facing each other are having the biggest turnover. At a time of our visit in July for three nights in a row these two restaurants were full, with people leaving half past midnight even restaurants should be closed by midnight, if I understood well. Both have live music every night (violin, guitar, double bass, accordion) and choice of songs is from evergreens for the beginning to local mainly folk or folkish music (local would be the whole of the former Yugoslavia, but many Macedonian songs) where the all members of the band sing. Not to everyone's taste but the band was comprised of very good musicians. I can understand that in such a big restaurant service is sometimes slow, we however did not encounter such problems but we came much later than the others and started ordering food only around 10.00 PM. Menu offers a large selection of meals. I always suggest to go for something local and the best way to start is with zucchini chips, sheep cheese and sheep cheese from grill, a set with ajvar, beans and vegetable relish and eventually a salad. usually starters themselves would be enough for a lunch or dinner. Meat dishes, from grill, were also excellent. For lovers of stronger stuff, Zolta, a yellow colored grappa, is a great choice and they also offer plenty of Macedonian wines.

I will start with the green salad made with white vinegar and olive oil wow I have not tasted this since my German relatives made when I was young growing up in the Northeast USA The vinegar must be organically mfg and totally different than the mfg kindThea salad with the most delicious red tomatoes chopped in chunks with hunks of cucumber with a very lite oil salt topped with a shredded cheese that looks like mozzarella but tastes so much betterOf course homemade bread. The bakeries here are small on street corners making the most fabulous breadsThe came a thin sausage very hearty taste red in colorAlso something only in Macedonia it is red in color looks like diced eggs have no idea but you put on bread then sprinkle what looks like crushed pepper with lots of unspicy powdered red pepper deliciousOf course a native beer Chocpo I know I spelled wrongThe problem with reviewing places here is the names are written in their language and not recognizable by TripAdvisorWonderful lunch the next day I went to another place and found the same qualityWho needs fast food relax and enjoy quality foodThank you Macedonia

Authentic, tasty, giant portions of food for a really cheap price - even by Skopje standards. It's in an odd location where you wouldn't expect a restaurant, let alone such a good one, but it's worth the trip. Our waiter wasn't too good at English, but we managed despite 2 minor misunderstandings. Oh, and there were mostly locals, they joined the band in singing and dancing after a few drinks. :)

Kebab restaurant where the taste of the kebabs has remained the same as it was back in the time when you were children. Times change, but the quality, the tradition and the reputation of Destan remain the same.
If you are tired on the trip of Old bazaar and you like to eat Kofte and Kebap you should visit that restaurant. You can maybe wait a little bit to find a seat.

We came for a lunch, had mostly meats. The pleskavica was out of this world. I had beef liver, which I can only recommend. The salads particularly were tasty. We had shopska salad and greek salad. I loved local cheese grated on salads. We had couple of beers and some ouzo. For its price it was really good.
