Other reviews are correct that this place is a bit dirty, the staff aren't too friendly and thd drinks are expensive.The thing that really bothered us though is that the whole thing is arranged around the river to see captive elephants in chains being bathed. Knowing that the only way you get elephants this docile is by breaking their spirit through brutal beatings (just Google how they train elephants for riding) made this all feel quite sinister. We didn't want to watch (even though the staff encouraged it). Elephants are quite capable of bathing themselves in the wild, which is where they should be - not being marched around town in chains with tourists on their bavk.

We were staying at the lovely Sigiriya Water Cottages when we decided to try this restaurant next door. We loved it. A large array of freshly prepared Sri Lanka food was offered by gorgeous, smiling Nisha and her parents. The restaurant is very clean and well presented and you are made to feel like family. The food is mildly spiced but diverse in its flavours. Our three young children enjoyed it all. A trip to this small restaurant is highly recommended!Thank you 1976Caro!

Anura Village Foods offers authentic Sri Lankan food in an authentic environment. It was not too spicy for our European taste buds but full of flavour nonetheless. Thank you for a true Sri Lankan experience! I believe I speak for our entire group of Fox travels.
