Super decor, large tables available for large groups.Walk up and order at the counter, self service drinks and a few different sauces to choose from, which is nice.Beef brisket sandwich came on a plain, average bun and had plenty of meat, but was "fatty" and not what I expected. Collards were good and the portion size was good, but flavor was "different". There were fresh however, so that was nice.Prices were higher than other bbq places in the area.

Always stop here for lunch when traveling on I-40. It's only about a mile off the interstate. Homey feeling, staff are very friendly and accomodating. Easy parking, booth or table seating. Free refills on soft drinks. Fantastic pulled & chopped BBQ with many options for sides. Their full rack of ribs is huge and the meat falls off the bone...yuppy! Reasonable pricing and fast service...you won't be disappointed!

We decided to have lunch at Hursey's today. Their posted restaurant inspection rating is 98, which is nice to see. I had their # 1 Combination Plate with Chicken, BBQ, green beans and potato salad. My husband ordered the # 2 Combination with BBQ and Brunswick Stew, coleslaw, and french fries, We were also given a basket with 11 round hush puppies that were about the size of giant marbles. The hush puppies were lightly golden brown and were better than those you get at many restaurants. I got the better meal and deal of the day. I had a large piece of fried/broasted chicken as well as a large serving of pork BBQ. The chicken was nicely fried and was still moist inside. We prefer beef BBQ to pork BBQ, but this pork BBQ had a nice smoky taste to it. The bottle of sauce at your table adds a nice flavor too. The sauce is thicker and tastier than many NC BBQ sauces. My green beans were canned but they had been cooked with onion and were okay. My serving of potato salad was generous and was good, although it needed seasoning. My husband enjoyed his meal although the serving of Brunswick Stew was very skimpy. The stew was served in a small vegetable serving bowl, which is a tiny portion considering it was one of the two meat entrees in a combo meal. Our server was not very attentive during most of our meal. We will probably not return to Hursey's BBQ.

First let me say the table, salt and pepper shakers, and even the napkin holders were sticky. I tried not to touch anything. You order at the counter and someone will bring the food to your table. They only have Pepsi products and I prefer Coke products. If the table had not been so sticky I would have given it an average rating. We both had the combination plate of BBQ and fried chicken. They give you a little tub of BBQ sauce that is vinegar based which we like but it tasted like it also had something else mixed in which I really didn't care for. The slaw was good. The hush puppies were greasy but after wrapping them in napkins they tasted okay. The french fries somehow had a fishy taste (they might use the same grease). The fried chicken was good. The BBQ tasted better without the sauce on it.
