The city is the most populous in Southwest Iowa, and a principal city in the Omaha–Council Bluffs metropolitan area. It is located on the east bank of the Missouri River, across from Omaha, Nebraska. Council Bluffs was known, until at least 1853, as Kanesville. It was the historic starting point of the Mormon Trail. Kanesville is also the northernmost anchor town of the other emigrant trails, since there was a steam powered boat to ferry their wagons, and cattle, across the Missouri River.

We were looking for great BBQ for a late lunch and decided to try Boxer Barbeque and were glad we did! I had the brisket sandwich with Mac and cheese for the side. My wife had pulled pork with fries. Everything was excellent, the service was fast and friendly and the meal incredible! Highly recommend!

We had never visited here before. There were only two staff (including the kitchen), and if that's all you see and anyone else is waiting for an order, think twice about staying unless you have lots of time. We had an unusually long wait. The server did warn us but we didn't appreciate how long it would actually be.That said, we really liked the food once we finally got it. And the server was very good and did her best to keep us updated. I agree with another reviewer in that this place is both bar and restaurant, which might put some families off, but we'd be happy to try it again.

Absolutely love this place! Amazing food! Wide variety! Loaded baked potato....super delish! Fast-friendly service!!!! Just opened up not to long ago in Council Bluffs, Iowa ----- wish they opened sooner!!!!! Enjoy!
