First time visit at this restaurant. Typical bbq choices. I chose the senior plate of brisket which was plenty. Tasty brisket and tastier sauce. My wife had the ribs and said they were good. You then go through a buffet line for your sides. That includes warm bread or cornbread. Nice dining area. Clean and plenty of seating. Servers are friendly enough. Iâd go back for sure.

Being well reviewed, we thought we'd give it a go. Should have left upon seeing all of their meat sitting out on a cutting board behind the counter. This is always a clue that the brisket will be drier than it should and will have lost a good bit of its flavor. Sure enough, this was exactly the case at BRLB. When brisket is left sitting out in the air it deteriorates pretty darn quickly. Had we been there when the brisket was pulled from the smoker and unwrapped, I expect it would have been great. As it was, it was well past its "use by date".This is more often than not caused by slow crowds and not enough turn over of the product. There are better places in Abilene.

South of Abilene is a local BBQ joint worth the drive. Their brisket was excellent along with their ribs. Also tried the peach cobbler which was good. The pecan cobbler (I'd never heard of such a thing before) was exceptional. They have proper central Texas vinegar based sauce. Friendly service and clean facilities. They don't stuff their own sausage, so we didn't sample the links.

Al's is always a great experience...enjoying the wide variety of meats and sides. The pricing for the platter buffet plates is very reasonable and the sizes offered should meet anyone's desire to sample the BBQ meat selection offered. Also, try the MR Potato served with BBQ, sauce and cheese. The potato is huge and provides a very filling meal. The buffet of veggies is the best in Abilene...mash potatoes, green beans, carrots, rice, corn, dessert. There are also salads and sandwich served. The is a steak, fish, and/or pork chop option as well. This is a great place for families to meet, eat, and grow together,

Drove to football game in Lubbock on annual tour of Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ restaurants along the way. Stillwater BBQ in Abilene should be near the top of the list for BBQ affectionados.. Excellent brisket, pulled pork and do not pass up the Mac n Cheese. The Mac n Cheese is a meal in itself! Decor is like a BBQ joint should be, long tables, sit communally with other patrons, free beer (if you like Bud Light), music and down home. We really enjoyed Stillwater and you would too. Rate it at least 4.5 or better.

This place is a short order, fast food BBQ. The jalapeño sausage is good. The brisket is tender but lacks flavor. The roast turkey was processed, not natural breast cuts. Only one sauce was served. And everything is served on styrofoam. Call me old school, but I like eating off a real plate! Our server was very friendly. The atmosphere was fun and casual, good for families.

I met some out-of-town friends here that were eager to go to Sharonâs because they were anxious to try some local BBQ. Although they have the basics down, itâs like they quit trying. The side selections just seemed âtiredâ and although they didnât necessarily lack flavor, didnât look particularly appealing. What they try to pass off as potato salad is like cold mashed potatoes with potato salad ingredients mixed in. Totally unsatisfying. I truly felt it wasnât worth what I paid. The potential is definitely there, I just think they need to work on their game.

The shed Catered the Brothers Keeper Movie Premier. I was shocked at how well the brisket was cooked when serving over 1500 people at one time. The Brisket was very tender and juicy. I would strongly recommend, them and they are much better than a couple of other local caterers.

We went to Abilene for the ACU Sing Song show. Having steaks and BBQ at a famous restaurant in the heart of Big Country was a great way to kick off our weekend. We sat in the bar area off the main dining room where memorabilia of H. Joseph Allenâs undefeated (nineteen consecutive wins) race horse Peppers Pride papers the walls. The venue and clientele were entertaining. You order your ribeye by thickness (3/4-inch and up) and how you want it cooked. Other entrees include BBQ, chicken, and fish. The spices used in cooking the steaks are for sale in downtown stores. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. My steak was heavy with salt and pepper, with warm pink center just as I asked for. Meat was tender and tasty. There is a variety of side dishes including baked potato and salads. My wife had chopped brisket with BBQ sauce. The serving was large, a plateful of food, and the brisket and sauce flavorful. I tried their apple cobbler for dessert. It is sold in half-pint and pint sizes, with half-pint being right for one normal person after a steak dinner. The cobbler was quite good, with interesting texture to the crust, and plenty of cinnamon spice and sugar on top. The bar has a modest selection of beers and wines. We had a Josh Cabernet, which we knew from home. I recommend Joe Allenâs to anyone who is hungry in Abilene.
