Freehouse on the Norfolk Broads... Winner of "best pint on the broads" Broads awards 2014 & 2015, Norwich & Norfolk CAMRA 'rural' Pub of the year 2015. Microbrewery installed in July 2015. Biggest range of beer on the norfolk broads! All menu items fresh
Have been several times in the past and will go again but tonight was a poor effort all round. A burnt burger, incinerated sausages, soggy batter on some pretty indifferent haddock. Runny camembert that needed a spoon not crispy toast. Chips that looked better than they tasted. And the peas. Bullets for peashooters. Waitress asked if everything was ok. We related Some of the above. She said she would tell the chef. No one appeared so we paid the bill and left. Beer very good as usual. Otherwise that was a one star experience.Need to do a LOT better. Thanks for your feedback David D,Unfortunately, you managed to come in on an evening where we had an agency chef covering for our regular chef, who had to leave for a sudden bereavement. You can rest assured that we have worked really hard to get the kitchen back up to a standard in which we can be proud of since I took over as manager and this is not the normal standard in which we operate.I regret that I was not working that particular evening as I would have happily offered you some sort of compensation as a result of your bad experience. I hope you do return some time, so that you can try our new menu which will be launching in the coming weeks under our fantastic new team. All the bestJim YoungsGeneral Manager

Traditional pub serving good local real ales, good selection of daily specials and Thai Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights then Sunday Lunch
Tucked away in the lovely village of Coltishall you will find the Red Lion. The pub is deceptively larger on the inside than you would expect with nice cosy private spaces and rooms. The pub specialises in good quality real ales that I am partial too, these are presented and served well. The weekends finds a fantastic surprise of really great Thai food served authentically. look out for the beer festivals easter and in the summer this is a great friendly get together with live music and a whole host of great beers. An absolute must!

Beautiful country pub with fantastic food options. The pub itself is full of interesting items, everywhere you look is another quirky item! The food is good pub grub, one issue with a meal which was sorted swiftly and well by the lovely staff! Thoroughly recommend.

The Rising Sun is a friendly traditional Norfolk Broad's pub overlooking the beautiful River Bure at Coltishall. Free 24 hour moorings nearby at Coltishall Common.
Impromptu visit as the weather was good last Sunday. Dining for two.Staff mostly seemed indifferent to the needs of customers, continuing private conversations while customers were waiting to order.Food was very below average Im afraid. Breaded chicken burger was quite obviously something that was brought out of the freezer and the fries very hard.Wouldnt have been so bad if the price had reflected this lack of quality (£14).The weather turned to rain and customers naturally came inside - sadly many of them brought their four legged friends in with them.Call me old fashioned but I dont much care for floor licking and barking dogs around my feet when Im in a restaurant.Sadly this is another example of a place with a great location on the river that quite honestly takes the pee out of customers because they know that the punters will stupidly keep returning. This is one customer who definitely wont!Avoid.

Important: To avoid disappointment, please call ahead to reserve your moorings/dining table. We are a pub offering great traditional pub food... we are not a fine dining restaurant and we do not offer table service. Thank you! As our opening hours change
A Full English Breakfast was the perfect start to the day for my husband yesterday. Everthing freshly cooked, piping hot and appealingly presented, with optional extras, friendly and welcoming staff - and a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee for me (as I was still pleasantly full from my delicious meal here yesterday evening), despite a very appetising vegetarian breakfast alternative.Perfect!

Serving patisserie, coffee, afternoon tea, breakfast, light lunch, dinner. Outside terrace overlooking the River Bure A warm welcome to everyone. We are dog friendly
With time to spare, we sat outside in the sunshine to watch the professional and not so professional manoeuvre boats about whilst we enjoyed a well earned drink. Food is on the expensive side but it is a lovely spot.

arrogant chef, over priced. no where near as good as they think they are. Rude waitress, seemed put out when we asked where our food was after 45 minutes. rude bar person, incredible miserable looking and grumpy when spoken too. obviously thought she was better than she was. was not 'on the river' as promised but next to the busy road so no view of the river. large parking lot but very little space. would definitely go to the pub next to it next time, seemed busier with happy customers.

Award winning pub and restaurant with bedrooms situated in the village of Horstead, near Coltishall, in Norfolk.
Lovely cosy ambience. Food delicious, I had the jerk spatchcock chicken it is quite a plateful, I couldn't finish it, full of flavour. My husband had beef wellington, which he thoroughly enjoyed, followed by sticky toffee pudding. The staff are attentive, without being overbearing. We will definitely, be returning. Someone sat at the next table had their dog with them.
