We learn that in Japanese culture sushi is considered an art form because its appearance is just as important as how it tastes. After all, “art” is defined as the “arrangement of sounds, colours, forms, movements that affects the senses of beauty.” So, we can see exactly how and why sushi is art – both at a practical and functional level – that you eat. The “art,” or sushi, entices you, appeals to your sight; your sense of touch and your taste buds. The Lobby Lounge and RawBar in Fairmont Pacific Rim brings all of this together in a beautiful, luxurious package. The general lobby area of the aptly named Lobby Lounge brings your dining experience to a whole new level. During the day, natural light pours in through the atrium windows, providing diners with gorgeous views of Vancouver’s bustling downtown. At night, the Lobby Lounge is transformed into a magically upbeat yet relaxing atmosphere suitable for casual pub eats and truly exquisite Japanese cuisine. Live music dazzles your hearing; the subdued lighting hints at the excellence yet to come; the high marble columns and strategically placed fireplace creates an atmosphere unmatched for dining. While there is a plethora of attractive items on the sushi menu, I’ve largely been a creature of habit. Whenever dining here, I’ve typically stuck to ordering the Smoked Sablefish & Bacon Miso and the Sushi Moriawase. Miso soup is typically a given on any sushi menu and it’s usually a one-note kind of thing; however, the fantastic chefs at the Pacific Rim’s RawBar have upped the ante by going beyond mere miso and including rich and flaky sablefish & bacon. I was initially hesitant about the sablefish, because it’s a naturally rich item, but it works so exceptionally well with the miso that I don’t know if I can ever go back to regular miso soup. Add in the bacon dashi – with its hints of smoky flavour – and you get a soup that is unmatched. Likewise, the sushi moriawase serves as a good introduction to the many flavours available at RawBar: 4 pieces of California roll, 3 pieces of spicy tuna roll and 4 pieces of salmon motoyaki round out the selection. Restrained embellishments bring dimension and sparkle to the fore and the result is unparalleled. FOOD: 5/5SERVICE: 5/5VALUE: 5/5RECOMMENDATION: The Fairmont brand has established itself as something of a symbol for refinement and elegance of the highest order. The Pacific Rim’s Lobby Lounge & RawBar keeps such a mission and vision held high through their service and food offerings. The opulence of the space amplifies and magnifies the beautiful and rich simplicity of the food. Highly recommended!PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!Thank you for your feedback on TripAdvisor; we really appreciate it. Stopped by on a lovely day in Stanley Park. We dined outside. The setting is somewhat scenic, not stunning, but pleasant, certainly. The food, well, unimpressive. I had the duck sandwich which was passable, while my wife had a salmon dish, in which the fish was wayyy overcooked on one side, and undercooked on the other. The restaurant also supposedly has Wi-Fi. However, you must have a Facebook account to log in. Otherwise, you're stuck. All in all, if I were return, I'd probably just stop in for a beer (there are several good selections) and then go elsewhere for a meal.

Cactus Club Cafe’s (CCC) location, ambience, food, drinks and good looking staff who provide friendly service is a fine way to end our vacation. We truly enjoyed our last dinner in Vancouver with good drinks, delicious chicken tenders (prime juicy pieces) with French Fries and crunchy but not dry chicken wings with celery sticks. Our food was of excellent quality and of adequate portions. This CCC has high ceilings, beautiful harbor views and nicely lit Cauldron. Its bathroom are unique.Thank you for taking the time to write a review Elsa! We take great pride in offering mouthwatering menu items, flawless service and unbeatable views of the Harbour. Cactus Club has figured out the magic formula. They’ve mastered a fine line between comfort food & good quality food. They’ve masterfully brought together a fun environment, great staff and wonderful food. You can enjoy lunch with your girlfriends friends, a dinner with 12 of your family members or a meal with children. The most important thing I feel is the consistency. And this consistently isn’t limited to just one location. Most of the cactus club locations have the same high level of service and food quality. The West Vancouver location is our all time family favorite. We eat there once a week. I could get the same meal every time, and it would be the exact same great quality each time. That to me is an amazing accomplishment. Yes, there are the rare hiccups, but it’s handled extremely well by the staff and management. They have recently ( Thank heavens ) added an online reservation option. I’m soooooo glad! We booked a couple days ahead and it was great. I do have to mention our server today who was absolutely on top of it. We had 4 kids with us, Saturday night, busy packed restaurant at dinner time. Nikki was able to handle the table very well. We were also in a rush to catch a movie and she was able to process the orders quickly. Amazing as alwaysHi Tooka, Thank you so much for your kind words! We are very happy to see you frequently, and even more overjoyed that you consider us a favorite. We take a lot of pride in our consistency and product altogether; we're always here to provide that excellent experience. Niki has gotten word of your positive feedback as well, thanks again!

It was our first night in North Vancouver. We went looking for Whole Foods, but we decided to grab a bite to eat before shopping. The Taphouse caught our eyes, because it was in a building shaped like a lighthouse. We had the “Calamari” appetizer. It was crunchy and spicy. The flavor reminded us of “salt and pepper shrimp.” It was delicious. My husband had the “Sierra Salad” and I had the “Baja Fish Tacos.” The Sierra Salad had lemon herb chicken breast, avocado, organic greens, shaved fennel, radishes, Galla apples, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, Feta cheese, and apple cider vinaigrette. It was light, tasty, and delicious! The Baja Tacos came with three tacos. Beer-battered cod, with fire roasted salsa, Chipotle Aioli, cabbage, and pickled red onions served on flour tortillas. Everything was delicious; except the tortillas. It was a bit hard. Our Server was friendly. The overall service was good. Unlike their American counterparts, there was good spacing between the appetizer and the entrees. Two thumbs up for the food & service!Good Evening, So glad to hear you had such a great experience with us and enjoy your meal! We take great pride in providing the best food and service on the North Shore. Would love to see you back in again next time you are in town. Sarah.BManager
