The Hart Inn

Reviewed By Penicuiker

Whilst on holiday in Sandsend we were recommended by friends to try the Hart Inn for a meal. We did so but sadly we were let down by the very poor quality of the meal. Initially we ordered a Hendricks and ginger ale and a pint of beer. This arrived promptly but what we assumed was the Hendricks turned out to be just a glass of ginger ale. As no staff were available I had to take the glass downstairs to the bar to complain. The bar staff agreed immediately that it had no gin and proceeded to tip the glass of ginger ale into another glass and added a shot of gin. We both ordered the surf and turf which comprised half a lobster and a rib-eye steak. Whilst the lobster was fine the steak was extremely fatty and chewy. The plates were cold and consequently the dish was very quickly cold too. At no time during the meal were we approached by staff or ale to attract their attention regarding the meal. Eventually when a waitress appeared after we had finished the meal we showed her the pile of fat on each plate that had been left. She made no comment. We will not be back.

The Moon and Sixpence

Visited a few days ago, with my wife and 3 month old baby. The weather was horrendous, so decided to duck into this place (we’d walked past on many occasions on past visits to Whitby) managed to get a table no probs (and help with the pram from the bar staff). The decor is awesome, really up to date and contemporary and this runs throughout the venue. I had a pint of their own beer (lobster logo) which was super tasty and my wife had a GnT. We decided to have a look at the menu to have a little something to eat and we’re stopped in our tracks by the cost of the food on the menu!!Because of the price we decided to share the vegetable skewers between us, thinking it’s £17, probs going to fill us both for that price....... it didn’t. For £17 you were served one skewer of roasted vegetables (about 80p worth of veg) a small side of french fries and a small side salad. Really disappointed with the food to price ratio (felt ripped off to be fair). The other disappointment came when I went to change my babies nappy, the venue didn’t have baby changing facilities so had to resource to changing my 3 month old on a changing mat on the toilet lid and nowhere to throw away a nappy, SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!! This is the first place in the three months baby has been born, that there has been no facilities when we’ve been out, come on guys get a foldable changer bolted to the wall! Staff were super friendly and really welcoming and couldn’t do more for us, but would think again about ordering food. Perfectly good place for a drink when the weather takes a turn!

Great little pub. Received a very warm welcome and the food is outstanding and extremely reasonably priced. If we lived nearer, this would be our local without a doubt.

The first time I went here I literally couldn't get in the door because it was so packed. My second attempt was much more successful. Small front bar, slightly larger back back. Decent ales on cask on the bar. Good atmosphere. Recommended.

We've just got back from celebrating my husbands 80th birthday at The Stables along with all our family, ranging from two months to eighty! We had an evening meal, overnight stay and breakfast for eighteen of us. My husband and I had been there several times and decided that it was special enough for his birthday and we were confident that the family would be happy there! We were not wrong !! From us all arriving at different times yesterday we were all made so welcome. The staff were amazing. So friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were just beautiful, especially The Lodge, with the sauna and hot tub. The whole ambience of the restaurant was perfect, and the outside with the views, and the pond, was lovely for photographs. Our meal last night could not be faulted, we all had something different and we were all delighted with the delicious food. As we all were with the breakfast this morning. We had a room to ourselves for our evening meal, and I was amazed at the service when the restaurant was full and there was another large party in. I cannot fault The Stables in any way and will be visiting there again on our next trip to Whitby. Thank you all for making my husband's birthday so special, I couldn't have asked for any more!

Ate here on our first night in Whitby, staff are always warm and welcoming at this bar. We ate upstairs it wasn’t noisy or over crowded but had a lovely ambience. On recommendation I had the chicken with sweet potato purée which was delicious and just the right portion size, my husband had the seafood linguini which he also enjoyed. We have wanted to dine here for sometime and it was worth the wait.
