Things to do in San Juan Capistrano
We stumbled across this place on our first visit to San Juan Capistrano. The cafe is above the Regency Movie Theatre. You walk up a grand staircase to get to it and whoa! what amazing decor. We loved it. We were the only patrons there for lunch, but that is not a bad sign, we were early. We ordered a sandwich and fries and they were so delicious. The fries were out of this world. I would recommend this for lunch or dinner. The bonus is Nascar was playing on the big tv. Great friendly service. Will be back!

We visited The Coach House for a concert. They happen to also serve dinner there. Now in my opinion, if you are going to offer dinner service at your concert venue, I think you should try to make it good. Just because people are already in your establishment and can't really leave to eat elsewhere doesn't give you a free pass on the taste of your food. The food here was priced high. One would expect to get what you pay for. Not really the case here. We ordered two appetizers: some type of mushroom thing and potato skins. The mushrooms were bland and uninspired. Basically they were cooked in some sort of watery sauce and served on a plate. Not worth the $8 charge. The potato skins were decent but not worth the $9 we paid. My wife and kids ordered a Caesar Salad that was priced at $12 but they say it was just OK. I was pleasantly surprised when I was brought that night's special. It was a chicken breast served on a bed of green beans and sliced red and yellow bell peppers. Topped with sausage and served with a scoop of mashed potatoes. I must say that I was happy with this meal. Generous sized breast of chicken and the flavor was good. The only thing wrong was that the mashed potatoes were very dry and crumbly. But overall a good entree. If you visit the Coach House do yourself a favor and order an overpriced drink and stay away from the appetizers. Those are just not worth the prices...

We stop here maybe only 8 times a year, but weâve been doing it for over 40 years. Food wise itâs mostly breakfast. Some great Mexican is served despite the limited number of choices. Itâs definitely a San Juan icon, even now that itâs become a little more gentile, well sort of!

On holiday in California, took the Amtrak with friends to San Juan Capistrano. We were going out for dinner, so only needed a light lunch. The stting is a dream, you can see the trains up close and personal as they roll through the station that is just a few feet away.Shown to our table by polite, well trained, professional staff, and we chose what we were going to eat. We decided o a couple of plates to share, as we knew we were going out later. The chimichurri steak fries, and avocado toast was ordered, and arrived at the table reasonably quickly. The fries had nice chunks of avocado, was well seasoned and enjoyable to eat, the avocado toast looked oh so good (I did not try that as I dont do eggs) and everyone enjoyed what they had eaten. To call this a lunch just does not do it justice, the atmosphere, the live music, the trains rolling by, it is an experience I will fondly remember for a very long time.

WE were rated top 100 Outdoor Dining Patios in the US in Forbes Magazine 2016 and 2017 and San Juan Capistrano's People's Choice Award for Best Overall Restaurant, best Lunch and best Dinner
Nice restaurant, atmosphere was welcoming. Unfortunately, food was overpriced . I ordered prime rib with mash potatoes and Ceasar salad. Salad was tasty. I brought a cake and without even asking for it, they informed me that to cut the cake they charge 1.50 p/p. They charge for bread, unless you order salad. Specially for the price of the dinner, no offering complementary bread, was the thing the disappointed me the most . Offering something when you sit down for dinner, it is a welcoming gesture.
