First visit to The Plough, meeting friends for lunch. Delightful place and superb menu choice. The food was delicious and obviously freshly cooked. As it is halfway between our respective homes and so good we have decided it will be our regular venue. The starters are huge but hard to resist so be warned! Service was excellent. Very good value for the quality of food and service.Thankyou for your great review and look forward to seeing you again soon

Welcome to our 16th Century pub with our new look and feel. We celebrate all that is great about fantastic region- its people, provenance and personality. Find us in the historic market town of saffron walden, just 20 minutes from Bishop Stortford and 25
I thought the setting was now beautiful, the food top standard, the tartae sauce was to die for. The staff attentive and well mannered. Its really been well done.My only slight gripe is sitting in the resaurant of an evening they were a lot of children runnung in and out of the beer garden, didn't really match the ambience but more than that big stinking panting slobbery dogs walking through. Not anti dogs but not where there are people eating food, make them walk around.glad you like the decor, unfortunately there isn't a walk around to the garden so through the dining room is the only way through, you can always ask to be at the back of the dining room where they won't be coming past you, many thanksCharlie

We have now visited here on two occasions. Firstly, I have no argument with the food. However, the staff disappoint greatly. From the lack of welcome, attitude, waiting time to order was greatly disappointing. Thereâs no welcome here, service at best being poor and general feeling of being unwelcome, we wonât be returning. Shame, as obviously lot of passion going on in the kitchen but poorly trained and unmotivated staff and it shows!I can only apologise sincerely for the lapse in service that you received on your visit to us recently. We do take pride in our wonderful food and the staff that serve it to you. I will pass on your comments to all concerned and make them aware that we have inconsistencies. I hope that in time you feel you can return to us so we can make a mends.( If you can email us your date and name on the reservation we can follow this up more efficiently).

Enviable reputation in a great location with all the food being prepared and cooked on the premises by our award winning chef Philip Todd. Home-made dishes cooked to order and nothing is too much trouble.
One of our favourite places for lunch. This month our confidence was again rewarded with a warm welcome, good food and good service.

A popular village pub with very helpful staff. There is a good choice on the menu and well kept beer. There is a choice of menu with a 'lighter' option available at lunchtimes.

The Plough is a traditional village pub located in the beautiful setting of Great Chesterford which is situated on the glorious North Essex/South Cambridgeshire border. There has been a pub on this site for over 150 years serving the local communities and
Simon and Sam were excellent from our initial contact right through to the execution of our post cremation celebration. They were both very helpful with suggestions and ideas for food, drink and music during a difficult time for our family. Prices were very reasonable and the food was of good quality with excellent service from all the staff. They easily handled over 80 people and we would highly recommended The Plough for a similar event. Additionally the pub offers a good external area for fine weather with plenty of parking.

Great family run gastro pub, highly recommended for a hearty meal and a decent pint. Came here with family visiting from Ireland, the food was delicious and we were made to feel exceptionally welcome. Homemade honeycomb ice cream was quite possibly the best dessert I've ever had! We will definitely be back again soon

We took two friends to this pub for Sunday lunch. Very friendly attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble - warm welcome from the landlord - even though he was clearly very busy. Good buzz about the place. Ice was brought with our water and wine without even having to ask! We shared the prawns as a starter and then tucked into sea bass, roast turkey and fish and chips - food was excellent - full of flavour, freshly cooked and all the meals were piping hot except for one of the sea bass which was just warm - but was such a delicious flavour and so beautifully cooked I decided not to say anything. Fleur mess, cheesecake and ice creams to follow - again all delicious and more clean plates. Good coffee in individual coffee pots was a great finish to a great meal. Thank you to all at the Fleur for an excellent lunch - will definitely be back.

We are a cozy country pub. We serve good home cooked food. We have a cosy, warm bar with real ale and an open fire, a lovely dining room and a large beer garden. We also have B&B rooms available.
Beautiful old pub, full of charm and character. Laid back service, which can make for a relaxed and unhurried visit. Staff are friendly. Food was delicious. Pan fried salmon was perfectly done, goats cheese salad was refreshing and light, and the sausage and mash were full of flavour. I can imagine this pub to be unbelievably cozy in the winter. Definitely a regular now! Great to hear weâre now a âregularâ. Look forward to seeing you again. Thanks for your comments.
