The food is was good for the price however a member in my party had to send their entree back twice as the steak was not cooked properly. The manager and owner was rude disrespectful. He speaks very derogatory to customers who are patronizing his establishment. He seemed to have an issue with disable people moving slower than normal and people having real life issues. He does not want any groups of any kind in establishment weather its is for an celebration or just a friendly fellowship. He screams and yells just rude for no reason. He was lied too by a staff member who did not at all make my party feel welcome, the young lady that was more than extremely helpful i hope i am getting her name right was Sarah. i even went to speak to the manager on my way out to thank him for a great experience he was not available however was contacted with such rude demeanor and disrespect. i would never recommend this place as he made a story in which he is attempting to stick with regarding the departure of our party however, someones timing is off as my Receipt in which i still have shows that if my ticket was printed and paid at 415pm. in which mean that there is no way if the party arrived at 345pm as he stated that we all would have been served and checks cleared in 30 mins. especially with one order having to be redone twice. but IF YOU LIKE TO BE DISRESPECTED AND MISTREATED BY ALL MEANS ENJOY, FOOD IS GOOD NEVER TAKING THAT AWAY BUT SERVICE AND TREATMENT MEANS A WHOLE MORE.

We had lunch with a group of ten. Two of us arrived early. During that time, the waiter was engaging and friendly. He served us extra drinks as our drinks got low and without us having to ask for a refill. He answered several questions about the menu and their featured dishes. Service during lunch was excellent (although it did take just a bit too long for him to get back from serving drinks to taking food orders). Anyway, some of the recommended dishes were just okay, but others were absolutely amazing and as good as you can get here in DC. I highly recommend the She-Crab soup. Two in our group had it and said it was outstanding. The "Savory Crab Waffle with Salmon Heat" was top notch and could compete on Top Chef. It really was that good. A waffle, but not sweet, savory - made with crab, crab seasoning, and gouda cheese. Crisped up just right. Nice salad and dressing on top. A perfectly done salmon on top of that - but then the sauce -- maple and Siracha. This combination was delicious. You must eat the dish with a bite of each -- it is meant to go together. Do not eat foods separately -- each bite should have the waffle, the salad, and the salmon. Congrats to the Chef who invented this dish. The crab cake was so-so. The Reuben and the Brisket also got great comments.

My family came in for the weekend to celebrate Fathers Day and my birthday. We had been to Fish and Slips a few weeks ago and had a nice lunch so we decided to take the family for seafood and the view of the Norfolk Harbor. 3 of the 5 of us ordered dishes with fried oysters. The waitress came back after 5 minutes to tell me that they did not have fried oysters for my hamburger. I was disappointed and surprised that at 2:00 p.m. that a seafood restaurant and raw bar was out of oysters. About 5 minutes later she comes back to inform the other oyster orderers that they would not have oysters either. Why she did not inform all of us together is a mystery but we all had to change our orders. 2 of us got hamburgers and the other got shrimp tacos. Not what we had set our mind for and a poorly managed notification of running out of a staple at a seafood restaurant. So we waited for our food. 2 hamburgers, 2 tacos and a half pound of steamed shrimp. The tacos and hamburgers came out together. The person with the steamed shrimp had to wait another 10 minutes. It takes more time to cook steamed shrimp than a hand burger? Waitress did say that they were on the way but no real updates on why they were delayed. I asked her to bring the manager over to talk with us. A few minutes later, Ashley a server and bar tender comes over and explains that all servers were caught off guard with running out of oysters. My question was why 3 hours after opening for lunch. Would make sense later at night. I then asked why it took longer to steam shrimp than cook a hamburger and she said that their steamer was old and not consistent. This is a seafood restaurant and raw bar. She offered us desert and I asked for a check adjustment because they could not deliver what was on the menu. She gave us 15% off only on the oyster orders and said that the Executive Chef would not approve of her giving more. If they can't steam seafood and serve the seafood on the menu, they have problems in the kitchen and the Executive Chef is not a very good manager of his kitchen.. When they send their very nice but overwhelmed servers to deal with poor performance and management in the kitchen, Management/ownership is to blame. Really disappointing lunch on what was supposed to be a special celebration with my family.

Came in toward end of happy hour. Ordered fried pickles. Good pickle flavor but pickles are sliced length wise very thin so one bite and pickle comes out leaving behind breading. Ordered burger with bacon, onion. Menu was accurate for ingredients. No dress and had to ask for mayonnaise and mustard. Was cooked perfect with medium pink. Slaw instead of fries. Slaw had more vinegar than I'm used to. Interacted with server only who was pleasant and provided great service. Atmosphere is nice but loud.Thank you for your visit and review. Having lived in Germany for a few years, I was looking forward to some bratwurst and sauerkraut - a staple of meals in Germany. Loved the bratwurst guy selling from a cart on the street corner - with a ready supply of mustard. I couldn't find bratwurst on the menu, so I asked waitress why they had no bratwurst ! She said, “oh, we do. It's the bockwurst - bratwurst is the same as bockwurst.” Well. It isn't. That started my lunch off on a bad foot. So, I decided to forego wurst, and have a Reuben sandwich. Bad decision. This was one of the worst Reuben sandwiches I ever had. The corned beef was a single sheet of tough shoe leather - could hardly bite through it.The selection of beer was, however, good (I was hoping to find Becks, which I drank all the time while in Germany. No luck here.) The service was good - pleasant and attentive. Not a good meal - won't be back.

We will be going back again though. As for the Carrollton location, it is larger but the food is nowhere near the quality of the Portsmouth location.

I hosted six friends and business clients at this restaurant, based on its reputation with my friends and colleagues; I’m glad I did. The establishment was very good and accommodating. The service provided by Ben D and Steve was outstanding. The restaurant has an extensive wine list and the selected Erath Pinot Noir was delicious. The seafood appetizers of calamari, lobster hush puppies, and fantail shrimp were very tasty and filling. Our dishes of fresh tasting steamed lobster, shrimp and grits, tostado tuna, and grilled pork chop were spot on and filling. The lobster mac n cheese was heavy on the mac n cheese, go for the steamed lobster. We were so full from the appetizers and main courses, we didn’t get a chance to try the dessert menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the final bill as I truly expected it to be more. This restaurant is in my top ten for return visits.Thank you for joining us at Saltine and taking the time to write us a great review!
