When you enter the Old Mill there is certainly a ‘wow’ factor created by the historical, 17th century feel. The choice of dishes available were on a blackboard, and both my partner and I chose the fillet steak. I ordered rare, my partner medium rare. At a price of £ 35 each you should expect cooked to order, however mine was medium, my partners well done. The accompaniment was skinny frozen fries and some rocket with Parmesan. The peppercorn sauce was of a very thin consistency and way over seasoned and was part of the dish, no choice. The restaurant was recommended to us as ‘special’ but I have to say for £90 inclusive of wine and a soft drink plus tip, it was disappointing. The service was good but if you travel a short distance further, you could have a magnificent fish dinner with supern views at the pier house for a similar price.Watch the tables by the way they sink in towards the centre as they are basically sections of trees, and as the steaks are served on boards.the juices finished up in the hollow of the table? Quirky but not practicalSo I’ve been waiting a little longer to respond to this wonderfully accurate review lol As this person stated he is local to our area so I thought I’d do my due diligence and find out what he was all about...what he doesn’t know is that it was actually myself who served them, so I have a very accurate overview of how their dining experience was! On entering the bar at 5-20pm for a meal I was very polite and showed them to their seat...yes in one of our booths that has a slightly uneven table..practicalities are not my strong point...apologies , but by your manners and dress sense neither is fashion your strong point... I though for a minute we had been swooped back into the Victorian era...very strange but each to their own.Our menu is very clear and concise with prices clearly marked up so there is no ambiguity on what you are ordering and what it costs...we have no hidden extras it is what it is. Terrence and his good wife plumped for the most expensive item on our menu ...our 10oz...yes 10oz 6 week matured pure Highland fillet steak at £35, sauce and sides included ...champagne tastes on iron bru wages did go through my mind. Terry stated he wanted it rare and not blue, so I dothed my cap and scurried into the kitchen to give our chef this exacting instructions. As Terry’s good and subservient wife had been doing her duty by chauffeuring , Terry decided to treat himself to a fine glass of claret , again our wine menu is very clear with prices marked, Terry of course didn’t go for the cheapest but opted for a large (250ml) glass of 2nd most expensive wine at £10, his poor wife relegated to a glass of soda As our chef had no other orders on he paid special attention to the steaks, which I will categorically say came out perfect, while asking on two occasions how there food was, I could clearly see they were cooked perfectly, in fact on both occasions they complimented us on the food. And even on leaving they both stated they had a lovely evening. So off they popped in their horse and carriage back to Fort William, and I thought nothing more of it...until this review popped up in my in box. So here is the amazing thing...it turns out Terry works for one of our suppliers...yes we buy their produce and they have the audacity to go round poorly reviewing the hand that feeds them, it is beggars belief. Before writing this response I tried contacting the owners Tim and Tim to inform them of what’s going on, but sadly they didn’t even have the manners to respond. And each time I asked locals about Terry all I got was “what that ignoramus!”, I think that says it all. So we have now ceased buying from this supplier, and have informed all our business neighbours to avoid them like the plague, I didn’t take pleasure in this but felt I had no choice as I can’t review them on trip advisor. And as for his raving review of The Pier House on our page ( he has never reviewed it on trip advisor) yes pop down and try it, Appin is a great foody destinations with food for all tastes and pockets, whether you live in the now or in Churchillian times So finally back to Terry and his good wife I wish you no ill will (maybe a little lol ) so go forward and be happy in whatever mundane interests you have, next time I’ll make sure I’ve got swan on the menu for you Quirky..but not practical

We were expecting a cheap burger bar with cheap fish and other options. Pleasantly surprised, lovely smoked salmon starter, and haddock and chips were delicious. Best haddock I’ve had for a long time. It might be different in peak season but we found it extremely good. Well done guys

the Glencoe Gathering

Reviewed By Charlene F

We came across Glencoe Gathering late in the afternoon in need of some tea and coffee and some refreshments. Upon entering we already regretted our choice, we were the only customers there and instead of staff offering help we were stared at by 2 members with no greeting at all. Eventually an older member of staff approached and once we asked if they would be willing to serve just hot drinks (it was nearing dinner and we did not know if they would be serving), we were rudely asked what we wanted without being seated or shown menus. After asking for a standard tea and coffee, we were told to sit wherever and after quite a wait got served some watery, tasteless, barely warm drinks. Upon finishing, no member of staff returned to us so wanting out as quickly as possible we walked up to the till to pay and this time the member of staff printed a receipt and took our payment without a single word to us! The whole experience was uncomfortable, with extremely tasteless and overpriced drinks.Dear guest Thank you for your valuable feedback, will discuss with department heads , sorry we where unable to meet your expectations. Kind regards

We booked a family room, which is two adjoining rooms one with a double bed, and three bunk beds in the other room with bathroom. It has plenty of room for us, a family of 5. The food at their restaurant was worth overeating for. I had fish and chips and had my eyes on their pasta and lasagna the second night but they get really busy. So, we checked with them and the wait was 20 minutes, so decided against the splurge. The location of the inn cannot be better. It is the first stop from the ferry and watching ferrys come and leave between 6:30am and 9pm was quite unique. It was the natural wakeup call in the morning. We also drove on the other side of the loch that doesnt require ferry to Glenfinnian and isle of Skye and it was worth it. I would stay here again without second thoughts. Leave rush behind when you come to the Inn at Ardgour. They also have a recreation room in the back with books and games.

The Laroch Restaurant & Bar

After being turned away from a busy restaurant in Glencoe village we were delighted to find a table at The Laroch. The food and service were excellent but unfortunately we were charged for a bottle of red wine instead of a glass. We didn't notice this till the next day and this was obviously our own fault but I emailed the restaurant about this a couple of days later giving them the full details of our meal and names of our servers but have not received the courtesy of a reply which is disappointing.Hi there. Delighted you enjoyed your meal with us, but really sorry you were overcharged for your wine. We are actually away on holiday at the moment, and so our emails aren’t being monitored as they normally would be. We will be back home in a couple of days and will make sure you are refunded for the mistake. Kind regardsEileen
