Popped in to get a Sunday lunch but were told a large party was just being seated so there'd be a wait. As we didn't have time to wait, we drank our sodas in the garden and agreed to return at another, less busy time.Sorry we could not accommodate you on this occasion but please do come again. Sunday lunch is popular and it is always best to call and make a reservation - 01664 841234.

The toughest and coldest steak I have been served in years. I was with my wife visiting as part of a group. Individual members of the group had all made their menu choices in advance, so the pub knew what to expect and when. I started by ordering drinks at the bar, and was surprised when one pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord bitter, and a glass of dry white wine came to over £11.My pre-ordered main course was "Beef and beets"; 8 oz rump pichana steak, salt baked celeriac, and beetroot. The dish when served was almost cold (a cold plate did not help) and while the medium rare steak looked good and tasted OK it proved to be difficult to cut and could be chewed only with great difficulty. Rump steak is not generally the most tender but in toughness this surpassed anything I had ever previously experienced. Others found the same.My wife had a Chicken supreme with wild? mushroom and fondant potato, which she found good enough but not exceptional. We both had Sticky toffee pudding, toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. There was not much stickiness or toffee to ithe pudding, more like a piece of dark sponge cake with a modest amount of toffee sauce on top. The ice cream, presumably a proprietary bought brand was perfectly acceptable. My neighbour had Lemon meringue ice parfait, where there were merely the smallest token pieces of meringue served beside the slice of parfait.Coffee/tea was served in pots, with cups (no saucers) placed on the table. One of the pots of coffee was so unbelievably weak that people at first thought it must be tea.Serving a group of people is never easy, and service, while being pleasant enough, all seemed distinctly amateur. Why do so few people seem to give their staff proper training?Insofar it had been organised by a friend who was acting as group leader I did not complain or send the beef back. Had I been by myself, i would certainly have done so.

Very enjoyable day. Did the tour first and the new tour guide with script was good fun, very personable and able to answer questions on general issues, but we knew more about brewing. However everyone very friendly and a really nice alehouse- decoration and seating well done . Four of us had a lunchtime meal. Large very tasty meals at good prices. Not that impressed with the mushrooms but the lasagne chips and salad was very large and a really good choice.

WE ARE OPEN EVERY DAY 12pm to 12am FOR DRINKS, FOOD TIMES ARE SHOWN BELOW. A traditional pub serving the finest real ales, which are sought after by everyone who enjoys an excellent pint. A variety of draught beers, wonderfully selected wines and spirits
This has recently become a firm favourite. Always a warm welcome at the Anchor, Nether Broughton. Service ALWAYS prompt and friendly, beers, wines and spirits VERY competitively priced, food which NEVER fails to impress. What more could we ask for? Well behaved dogs welcome too. Just wish mine was! Thoroughly recommended to all. But a word of advice, you will usually need to pre book a table on Friday and Saturday evenings as The Anchor is on the cosy side and they do get busy.

I used to be the landlord here, 30 years ago and my has it changed, not so much physically but the way it is run and the look of the place. Still family run and they are good at it, super people and a fabulous atmosphere. Smartly decorated and tastefully done it was a real pleasure to visit. The food is absolutely first class, the menu is small and well thought out, 6 of each, starters, mains and sweets with a couple of specials, brilliant. There were 4 of us and all had different things, I had the best Belly Pork I have ever had, the fish dishes and the risotto were apparently fab as well, the sweets were to die for.Not overpriced and certainly not pretentious, a good mix of locals and visitors, a very friendly atmosphere and great food with good parking, what a mix, go and visit it's worth it, book first mind!

I was really looking forward to visiting today but didnât stay for food or another drink because the bar service was so slow.. just one person on!! Went to the boat inn for another drink before catching a train from the station. Great building but service needs to meet the same standard.

So many pubs have become too fancy and lost the feel of being a local where people chat at the bar. This pub combines food and the bar atmosphere. The homemade sausages were beautiful with buttery mash. No jus in sight. Quality food, well cooked.Warm and friendly atmosphere. Good range of real ale too.

Visited with our family and friends for a midweek treat and what a treat it was! From sumptuous scallops and whitty reporte from our waiter to imaginative desserts - who knew you could smoke a chocolate mouse?! #tastesensation - all our boxes were tickled this evening, thank you!
