We stopped in because the sign promised fantastic food and local sake and they did not disappoint! The sake is the best we've had in Japan and the food was so good. We ordered a feast and ate every bite. Then we got some extra sake. :) Excellent service. Warm and welcoming. Highly recommend!We really appreciate your coming from US! Enjoy Matsumoto! Enjoy Japan! This tiny bar was right across the street from our hotel - my husband loves whiskey and they had a great selection. We stood up drinking shots as a nightcap - well worth a visit for one or two drinks.

We stumbled upon Hop Frog Cafe by accident as the veggie restaurant we had planned to go to was closed. It looked nice from outside and there seemed to be a few vegetarian options.The place is run by a lovely couple who spent a good few years in the States, so they are really easy to communicate with in English (not a thing one can take for granted in Japan) and they're open to the idea that some people don't want a fish sauce in their food.The 'tofu steak' was delicious, a sort of an American-Japanese fusion. Really recommended. It's about 5-10 minutes walk from Matsumoto station, so if you happened to be in Matsumoto it's really worth paying a visit to this lovely family business.

We visited the bar after dinner at around 9pm but it was full. We went back to our ryokan and enjoyed the onsen, then decided we would try again at 12am. It was one of the best decisions we made during our trip to Japan!The bartender served us spoke decent English, they had a menu for cocktail but not whisky. However, we were there just for Japanese whisky, though we had no idea how to pick one from the huge collection they have. The bartender recommended us (group of 3) to try Taketsuru 17yr, Yoichi 12yr and Miyagikyo 12yr. The ice ball for whisky are further polished by the bartender before serving, and you can just see the bartender treats every step very seriously. The environment of the bar is absolutely brilliant, it is dark and quiet enough for a late night drink.Drinking Japanese whisky in bars is expensive in Hong Kong, here in Main Bar Coat they just charge less than half the price! (1,300 Yen for each glass of our picks IIRC) Must go if you are a whisky lover and happen to visit Matsumoto. The bar opens till 1am.

We tucked into this British style pub on a blazing, hot day in August. The gin buck that we ordered was just the thing to keep us going in the intense heat. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive.

This restaurant is main draining of Kamikochi Imperial hotel.Once you will step into this restaurant, you will be surprised that some ladies wear evening dress and some gentlemen wearing suits. Hotel staff are wearing black suits or director coats.The atmosphere is like dining room in city hotel.Can you believe this hotel is located in very deep mountain?Food quality would surprise you, because chef come from Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.From appetizer to dessert, all dishes make you happy.If they serve nice cheese and espresso, that is perfect!But you have to remember that you are in heart of national park, not in Tokyo!If you welcome celebration, birthday, anniversary, etc., you should inform that in advance.Hotel staff will give special service!
