Visited this pub twice during our weekend in Matlock. We took our puppy for his first lunchtime pub visit. The staff were so welcoming and have him a fuss. We got a table with lots of space and our son loved the games provided. The food was lovely, especially the cauliflower cheese and roast parsnips. We would definitely go here again. Iâd done lots of research before our weekend away re dog friendly places. This was definitely the best. The other places we went to allowed dogs in but we didnât feel as welcome. The Sunday lunch musician was a nice touch too.

Alwyn and his team, including Adam and others, did a full turnkey catering for our family function in the Village Hall. More than 50 people for a full three course meal and all of the bar and afternoon tea surrounding that. Their professionalism in organisation and delicious presentation was outstanding and was delivered with real friendliness and humour and this made the event a huge success!Can not recommend highly enough and we were very grateful to them. I have already rated excellent and still do. However, having dined here five times in the last couple of months, I can now comment on some of the dishes.The sizzlers, lasagne, gammon, ham and eggs, salmon and poached fish are all superb.On a personal note-Great battered cod but still had skin on.The steak pie was a casserole with a lid of fragile pastry that shattered when you tried to put your fork in it. Otherwise very tasty.The Gumbo pepperpot to me was an expensive bowl of leftovers from other items on the menu.A bigger specials board would be good as then you don't always know what you're having before you get there.On a very personal note-they don't stock newcastle brown.Hi there, Thanks so much for your review, we're glad you enjoyed us enough to pop back so many times! We hope we can continue to allow you to try more of our dishes and find some more that do suit! It is often very interesting to hear different opinions on our dishes. Next week we will be changing our menu for our more autumnal selection, so we hope you will come again to try this menu too. We take your note about the pies and are actually changing to a new recipe for the pie, it will be an all encompassed pie next time! Absolutely disgusting customer service during the ABBA tribute towards me and my friends. Phone destroyed by the owner and now has water damage from a drink poor all over it. Was swore at and he commented on all our appearances, the way he spoke to his customers was absolutely disgusting. Verbally abusive. Please stay away from this place, he is disgusting! Will be taking this further. We will be taking this further as he went through our personal belongings without permission, was verbally abusive when he told us to leave and was genuinely just a disgusting person towards customers.This is largely true when you turn up to an event we put on for free at great expense and think itâs okay to bring your own vodka, beer and cider then think because I tell you to leave Iâm in the wrong. You type of people spoil an exceptional event by your dishonest deceitful behaviour. We donât need customers like you. Thank you.

Stayed for a couple of nights and had a pleasant stay with friends. Room was adequate but bathroom in room four was on the small side. Eat in one nice and we all had decent meals. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Range of beers in the bar was first class too.Hi CamspigTanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed the stay. I'm glad you bought up room 4 bathroom size, because it's being upgraded this very month. But otherwise I'm sure it would ha e been a 5 star/bubble experience.RegardsLee

Passed by this pub and decided to stop in for lunch. Neither of us were disappointed. Both went for Homemade pie with peas, mash and gravy and were very impressed. Staff very accommodating and welcoming :-)

A proper pub with real atmosphere and clearly loved by the locals and many others, always a good sign - and a real fire! Lounge bar traditional, with separate linked restaurant. Simple and effective, friendly staff and super food - we lucked out by walking in and discovering it was âSteak Wednesdayâ. Donât know how they do that quality and quantity of good food for the price - x2 8oz sirloin dinners a drink each and bottle of wine £38. Definitely recommend for a good authentic evening either to eat or a quick pint by the fire. Thank you

What a fantastic little pub. We had some lunch there the other day and it was beautifully presented, with pleasant/friendly staff. The chips were delicious and so was the ham oatcake. We had the small portions, which was plenty big enough!!! I will certainly go there again and I will recommend it to anyone who likes quaint older pubs. The locals were friendly as well.

We had a great meal here, the food was delicious, my fave was the breaded Brie wedges with salad and sweet potato fries, my daughter had the homemade steak pie with chips, peas and gravy, very tasty. They serve a very tasty rhubarb cider which is delicious. If you like good food, visit the Sycamore Inn.

Great village pub with an awesome selection of drinks. There's a brewery on site plus local craft ales and ciders, any spirits you could wish for, great food and amazing hosts. All the food is locally sourced and cooked with love. Bands on every Friday and Saturday, what's not to like?
