Finding a restaurant open on Mondays in Leon is a challenge, so we were not expecting much. La Gitana surpassed our expectations. Although the 6 of us were the only ones in the restaurant they could not have been more hospitable and determined to give us a good meal. Our host who was also the chef delivered a superb meal. We chose local specialities as well as specific requests - the broth cooked turbot was a highlight as were the spicy marinated peppers, braised baby squid and hake. We also had a mix of delicious starters - iberico ham, mixed salads etc. It was all cooked to perfection and delivered with love and passion. It seemed a shame that there were only 6 of us to appreciate it. We would definitely go back. The only down side was the decor which could do with a little updating!

Restaurante con un patio exterior, con zonas calefactadas y cubiertas. Comida casera recién hecha, y más de 100 platos para elegir. *NO ADMITE RESERVAS*
Food was really good and wine too. Meat was great and all the waiters were professional, efficient and nice, doing their job with a smile. You really need to try this place which has also a nice patio with a lot of tables. Do not miss the experience.

Have been to many tapas bars in Leon and this is certainy not the best. We though beers were expensive compared to others we went to and the tapas was terrible, dried out stale potatoes and a dried up piece of chicken wing....so many gorgeous places here in Leon, skip this one.

This is a no frills bar that serves mainly locals and retains old world charm. We had some great wine, the complimentary tapas ( we chose salmorejo and gazpacho) and the croquettas from the main menu. Everything was delicious and atmosphere buzzing - no idea how the staff keep up! Good value as it is all well priced. Worth a visit.
Where to eat Pizza food in Leon: The Best Restaurants and Bars

This restaurant doesn't look much from the outside: you might think it's just a bar and pass bay. However, it has an upstairs dining room at the back. Best of all it has a cool bodega in the basement. That was where we were offered a table on a very hot evening in Leon. The only other diners were locals - always a good sign. For my main course I had a veal steak, grilled beautifully pink and a very generous size. All the food was good and the service was fine.We paid 49 Euros for two courses, bread, wine and water and we thought we had pretty good value.

This small tapas bar is one of a number of eateries in Playa St Martin directly behind the west side of Playa Mayor. Popped in here for lunch on a cold afternoon as it looked welcoming, warm and busy. The waiter was friendly, the alberino wine good, the calamari and empanidillos were freshly cooked and delicious. There was also a free tapa of fried potatoes and ham. Excellent value, attractive pine decor and tables, used by locals and visitors and clean toilets. There's a menu in English if you need it. Highly recommended.

Open seven days a week , The Calecho is based on its core products of the earth, " a traditional meal that emplata updated differently to achieve a more visually appealing concept ." Valdeon croquettes with a hint of nuts and quince, dried meat salads or
Hard to find anywhere to eat till 8pm in Leon. We saw people eating here at 8 so sat down. What a great choice it was. Delicious food, very efficient service and good choice of wines. We were given two meat filled rolls complimentary with our meals and a big basket of bread. Will return tonight. Situated in lovely little square with good people watching.

There were as many people outside as we were inside. It is probably the only bar in Leon than has a queue of people standing in the freezing cold of November. According to the locals it is the right place to eat like you would at your grandma's.
