The Halfway House doesn't do high end haute cuisine but what it does do it does phenomonally well. Dishes are fresh, delicious, superbly seasoned, piping hot and on hot plates - always appreciated. On Wednesday they do a restricted menu at only £7.95 with about 6 choices. All are worth savouring. The pork goulash is particularly good. Thursday is "Pie society" night with home made pie, veg, chips and a pint for a tenner. Superb. Try the steak pie (great pastry!) with Guiness. hmmmm. The view from the dining room takes in the Dee Estuary. It deserves to have more patrons.

Visited last Sunday and although it looked a bit like it was going to rain decided to sit outside as we had the dog with us. We ordered Roast Turkey dinner. It came piping hot, lovely slices of meat and lots of nice veg. We ate it all! However, we thought we would order a pudding as well. I had homemade ginger sponge and my husband cherry bakewell sponge. Possibly some of the best puddings we've ever had while dining out! We were extremely full after, but for £11.95 each it was outstanding value. A must visit if we are in the area again!

Had booked a table with family after hearing lovely comments about the food here. When we arrived our table wasn't quite ready, you could tell they were busy, which wasn't a problem as there is a nice bar area to wait and you can see into the kitchen from there. We were shown to our table and told the specials by a young, polite, girl who was very attentive and ensured our glasses were never dry throughout our meal. It was nice not having to wait for someone to pass by.Food was hot, arrived within a good time between each course and was very tasty.Goats cheese starter was delicious and the chicken pie, which we were sure wasn't actually chicken but beef, was incredible.Wine was tasty and the atmosphere was pleasent.Would definitely return and recommend.

We went for the full set menu for a pre-Christmas lunch. This consisted of starter, main course, dessert, with cheese and biscuits to follow. My wife and I both had the Prawn Cocktail to start, followed by Roast Turkey. The vegetables came in a separate individual dishes with an excellent selection, whilst the Roast Turkey was accompanied by stuffing, pigs in blankets and potatoes. For dessert, I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which is to die for and my wife had the traditional Christmas pudding. Just in case we had any room left, there was a selection of cheeses, biscuits and homemade pickles to complete the meal. Thoroughly worth every penny.

This was a lovely place. The atmosphere was relaxed as was the decor - not what I was expecting at all from the outside. I could imagine myself staying there for a few hours reading and passing the time. The food was delicious. My husband thought the portion size of the main meal was a little small (hence 4 stars) but to be honest I thought £15 for three courses was fabulous value. The food was delicious - all members of our party had the roast lunch and various starters and main courses. My teenaged son described the starter choice as "random" and Mediterranean and I know what he means - garlic ciabatta, carrot and red lentil soup (absolutely delicious) spicy chicken wings and tomatoes and mozzarella - but again they were all throughly enjoyed, as were all of the roast dinners and puddings. Finally, I have to mention our server - he was polite, attentive, patient and gave a ten star service! Thanks for a lovely time

Average food - like home cooking. Not bad, just nothing special. Very dark and tatty inside. Parking is limited.

Walked here with the dog whilst staying at Haulfryn caravan park a mile away and our reward was 2 pints of refreshing lager shandies (so good we had another round). Friendly landlord who immediately put out a bowl of water for our dog, always extra points for this. Sat outside on a glorious day. Just beautiful.

We thought we would go for my birthday meal. We went to the counter/bar to ask for our booking. We were told the table in the corner was ours. We were given 4 sheets of A4 paper with the menu on. I have to confess that I thought it gave you WW points, I actually commented to the lady taking our order, that I did not understand it was the price. Mixed grill was £21. Even though the order was taken for the steak to be medium to well done, it wasn't on the plate. It did take a minute or so to realize, as the plate was searchable. Everything was just "on" the plate. It was a limited menu as they explained, due to running out of food the previous day. Bank holiday weekend is always a busy time. When we mentioned the missing item, a small plate was placed by the original mixed grill order. It wasn't cooked as requested. The staff were busy cleaning tables, so we didn't speak to anyone again. We asked for a desert menu, while our plates were cleared away. After 20 minutes we asked for the bill and left. Sorry, but I don't feel you have improved anything.
