Went with large group, maybe 12 other people in bar. Took over an hour for our food to come... burgers. They were all very over cooked, one person in group didn't get his by the time he did get his the rest of us were done and his burger was burned when he did finally get it. Waitress was apologetic... told us their cook was a 17 year... fairly new. Apparently they need to hire and pay for a real cook. Won't be back... had same experience last year.

We went to this restaurant based on word of mouth. The burgers were said to be fantastic. We ordered burgers (about $10) and they were good but maybe not better than specialty burgers in other restaurants. The Brown Bear is on the main street of Shelby. There is plenty of curbside parking because there is not much else around. The place does not have curb appeal and if I were driving by, I would not have stopped. The windows are dark and the door is dirty and faded. Inside, the atmosphere is yellow pine in a bar - restaurant setting. If you don't like bars, that's OK - most of the people at the dinner hour ordered food and soft drinks. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. The arrangement is crowded and does not appear to be wheelchair accessible. The menu consisted of a half dozen appetizers. There were about eight burger options and five dinner options. Other sandwiches can also be ordered. I did not see options for children. This is a local tradition and I am glad I went once. I probably would not drive miles for this destination.

What from the outside looks like a hole in the wall is actually a fun bar and grill serving amazing comfort food. The menu is only a single page. The burger selection is fun. There are non-burger sandwiches and a couple other options, but this is a greasy spoon so you should order what they do best: burgers. The âNotoriousâ burger is a full pound of beef. Even âThe Cubâ is half a pound. Come hungry. But donât come expecting any healthy options, only yummy ones! The service is friendly. While it is clean, it is small. There is only limited seating near the bar, on the ground level, and on the second-floor porch. Plan to come at non-peak hours.

An Amazing location for your family & friends to enjoy a wonderful meal!
This place is tucked away from the main drag. But well worth the drive. The pizza was awesome. The service was great. Nice clean area and lots of seating. You can set outside or in side. They bring the food to your table. Will go again!!!

We had a hungry bunch, and needed a roomy place with a variety of offerings. Open Hearth was exactly what we were hoping for! Varied menu, delicious food, adequate seating for our group of seven and a baby, and reasonable prices. And above all, friendly and efficient service. We will definitely come back when we're back in the area.

Stopped for lunch on a overnight getaway. There were 3 lunch specials and 2 homemade soups plus the regular and extensive menu! I had the wild rice chicken soup and my husband had the hot ham and cheese sandwich with tots. The soup was especially delicious. There is a small in size but with a wide range of options, and the 2 soups were available there as well.It was my first time, but my husband has eaten there before and agrees that this little spot deserves âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸. Nice beer selection is a bonus.

We ate here on a Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy inside and out on the covered patio area. We chose to eat outside and really enjoyed it. The Reuben sandwich was really good as was the brisket cheese steak sandwich. The whitefish sandwich was tasty but the amount of fish is minimal, order the extra fillet for $5 and it will be perfect. Service was good and prices average. We didn't have any of the beers but there was definitely a large selection.
