Although the restaurant was fully booked the hostess found me a seat sharing a small bar table with another single diner. As it turned out a table became vacant so we were offered the table and were able to continue chatting to a fellow traveler. My cauliflower felafel and salad was absolutely delicious. The 'salad' was composed of grain, maybe couscous, rocket, fresh herbs and cashews.Yum. I'd love the recipe.Washed down with a crisp glass of Pierrepoint Pinot Gris, I couldn't have been happier. My new friend enjoyed her sumptuous looking paparadelle with roast salmon and prawns. It was the perfect antidote to a cold, windy evening.Compliments to the chef and friendly team.I'll definitely be returning with family and friends

This place tries hard...The building is lovely, most of the staff are charming, but, oh dear, the food is very ordinary. However, it is also extremely well priced, so maybe I'm being too harsh. It seems to attract quite an elderly group of people - my husband and I are in our mid 60's, and we felt young!!! I have ordered a scotch fillet steak and ended up bringing it home for my dog! I was only able to eat a small amount of it because of fat and gristle. The dog loved it though! My partner ordered a baked chicken dish that he said tasted ok - but was very dry and over cooked. The bar staff unfortunately showed little interest in their job and the young woman serving at table gave the impression that she'd rather be anywhere other than there! As I said, it's a lovely building in a great location - opposite the sports ground and a short walk into the heart of Hamilton, but the place lacks atmosphere. Everything is quite dark and getting around from one space to another is awkward...having to negotiate your way around billiard tables and other obstacles to get in or out of the dining room is a nuisance - add that to the overall gloominess of the place and it's an accident waiting to happen with those elderly folk around! We've been there three times now - just to make sure that we haven't just hit on the 'wrong' day or a day when the normal chef/cook is having time off, but unfortunately we won't be going back to eat. It may be a relatively inexpensive food experience - but if you can't enjoy it, or worse - can't eat it, then why go though it again?

Group of 12 booked in for dinner. Only gave 30 mins notice. We arrived and the table was ready and very close to the fire. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the meals were nice and quick.
