THE PHATT CHEF RESTAURANT, (relocated from Clarens in Feb 2014), now renamed The Phatt Chef Roadside Diner & B&B, serves breakfast, lunch tea, coffee & scones to passing tourists. The Bent Arm Bar open daily for refreshments. With an innovative new menu,
My husband and I returned to Phat Chef Diner on Saturday, 8 December 2018 for breakfast. The breathtaking surroundings were the perfect place to say our goodbyes to the Drakensberg region after a three week holiday. The breakfast items on the menu were listed separately and my husband could compile his own meal. He had two fried eggs, a pork sausage, boerewors and a crumpet stack. The eggs were perfectly cooked to order. He thoroughly enjoyed each bite of his meal. He also had a cup of filter coffee and I had a latte which was excellent. When we wanted to settle the bill the credit card machine had a glitch due to bad weather. The manageress, Jenny (I think) wrote their banking details at the back of our receipt and said that we could do an electronic transfer once we are back home. (Fortunately the card machine worked with a final try). This sweet gesture from a complete stranger impressed us immensely and we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the trust you bestowed upon us. The food at Phatt Chef is wholesome and homemade and the setting is spectacular with magnificent views but the cherry on top is the management with hearts of gold.Dear zerwickrenatevictorThank you for such a wonderful review. I am please to see your husband enjoyed his breakfast and you both enjoyed your coffees. We like to think that there are still good honest people out there. We hope to see you again soon. Pop in for lunch next time our burgers are to die for.Kind Regards Jenna

Die Ou Kar restaurant and pub is situated in the main road of Bethulie town and is the most popular venue for great food and ice cold beer in Bethulie. A unique, true ''plattelandse'' experience, that will stay with you forever... We specialise in steaks,
Absolutely love this place; we have been a few times and love it every time we go. The staff and management are super friendly and have always delivered a delicious meal. I see a number of reviews complaining about slow service; well what people need to remember is that this is the platteland and nothing happens in a hurry; you are supposed to sit back relax and enjoy the wonderful location; enjoy your meal and the company of the people you are with. Don't rush just enjoy the moment.

German style restaurant with amazing meals,a lot of different beers to choose from and friendly and helpful staff. The view is spectacular and well worth a visit if in Clarens for a day or two.
We popped in for drinks before trekking through the various Clarens shops. The range of beers, the variety offered in terms of the German menu and the amazing delicacies offered in the front of the store make this a must visit. Moreover, the great views over the Clarens valley is a real bonus. Great atmosphere.

RocoMamas Langenhoven Park is all about building the best Smash Burgers, serving mofo wings and getting messy with some serious ribs.
Poor overall service, the waiter did not offer any drink refills, and was eager to clear the table asap even though the place was empty, most food options are overpriced, except for a few salads, the food is really only junk. Not worth the trip.Oh no, this review ain't cool, Marius V,Weâre sorry to see you had a not-so-rocking experience at our store. Please pop us a mail with your deets & a copy of this review --> [email protected] so we can get in touch with you directly to discuss this further.Cheers,Ethynn
Where to eat Cafe food in Free State: The Best Restaurants and Bars

The Jewel of Fouriesburg, Free State, I discovered this restaurant on my way to look out for my guest house where I will stay that evening. I went for breakfast. The menu has a variety of breakfast dishes. They offer a buffet breakfast, which is value for money. There were fruit, yoghurt, muesli, cereals, the typical English breakfast with special freshly homemade bread and homemade apricot jam. The staff get out of their way to let you feel special and satisfied with the service and food. After a long day, I booked a table for dinner â delicious chicken with veggies. Again the variety on the menu is from oxtail to bobotie and made with perfection. The service is outstanding!!! I will always stop there for something to eat. The vibe is "please come in and enjoy." I recommend this restaurant to anyone who passes Fouriesburg on their way to Clarens or Ficksburg.

We were recommended to dine here by our B&B. Its a great little restaurant. Straightforward blackboard menu. Lovely, friendly atmosphere. Super owners and staff. We had steak - excellent meat (locally sourced we were told) - & cooked to perfection. Nice bottle of wine. Very good value. And they have a generator during power outages. What more could you ask for? Would not be out of place in Cape Town or Stellenbosch, and is a fantastic find in out of the way Zastron.

Luckily we booked in advance and managed to get a table. The restaurant was fully booked. We had to wait a bit longer for the food. Otherwise, the food was good and it was great to go there. Most of the restaurants close early in Clarens. It's better to book in advance for dinner.

We had dinner at this restaurant while on our way to Cape town and i was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent(very friendly and fast) and the food was done just right(the way you like it). The steak i had was soft juicy and done to perfection and they even flambeaud it at the table. I also liked the decor and the atmosphere is very relaxed and it makes for a good "kuier". The price is average and you get what you pay for. They have specials for everyday of the week and they even do the occasional takeaway. I liked it and in my opinion the best steakhouse so far. Thank you longhorn.

On-site micro brewery and distillery offering great craft beers, ciders and gin in fun, industrial setting. Food menu is mainly finger food - think platters of sausages, delicious hams and salami, cheese, local bakery bread.
Th Clarens brewery has a wide variety of their own beers and other drinks. It is friendly and the atmosphere is really special at sun downer time
