The Five Bells Inn is a beautiful thatched farmhouse inn; home of Devon's best Sunday roast. We provide award-winning locally sourced & freshly cooked food coupled with local beers, ales and ciders and an extensive range of beautiful wines & soft drinks.
The Five Bells manages to have a cozy country pub atmosphere while still feeling spacious and comfortable. Tucked away on the edge of the village in the beautiful Devon countryside, it was perfect for a crisp autumn day. The Sunday lunch menu offered much more choice than we were expecting, it was well-priced, and the food was delicious - roast beef was served rare, and with a wonderful selection of fresh veggies. The staff were all friendly, efficient and helpful. We werenât rushed, but they were attentive whenever we needed anything. Would love to try it for dinner. The food is well-cooked and interesting without being too fussy. Weâll definitely go back for another visit.

The Cridford Inn - the oldest pub/inn in Devon and possibly the oldest in England dates back to 825AD. It had previously served as a nunnery and a farm, being originally inhabited by the early Britons/Celts, before the building was remodelled in 1081. In

Beer Factory and Kitchen is the amalgamation of 2 successful independent businesses - La Cantina South West & Hanlons Brewery. Beer is of course never in short supply, but you can also enjoy locally sourced, farm to plate, rustic comfort food. in a cosy s
Iâve been visiting Hanlons for some time as itâs only a couple of miles from where I live but Iâve never left a review until now. Basically because most people including myself, donât leave reviews unless we have something to complain about. With Hanlons there is nothing to complain about. Their ales - brewed just next door through the window- are all excellent and at £3/ pint some of the cheapest beer you will find. They all taste great and I can really recommend the Citra if you like hoppy ales. Their Yellowhammer is also a favourite.Hanlons food, aka âthe kitchenâ is relatively new but simply brilliant if youâre a fan of relaxed âstreet foodâ dining. Forget your nouvelle cuisine here and just get stuck into a top class burger or a really succulent fish and chips. The food prices may not be as super-cheap as their ale prices but you genuinely get what you pay for here and you wonât regret it, and to be honest itâs no more than youâd pay at most pubs nearby.Last but not least are the staff. Itâs a family run business and, as the literature states, everyone lends a hand. So donât be surprised if youâre served your food by the owners, or if you end up sipping beer next to the brewer. If youâre in or near Exeter itâs really worth a visit.

A Semi-Rural Pub Located In The Heart Of Picturesque Longdown. Serving Fresh Food, Local Beers And Fine Wines
I've already reviewed the Lamb at Longdown but having been there yesterday for Sunday roast I think it warrants a second review because it was a simply great Sunday lunch.Because I don't eat red meat I had the vegetarian option of roasted celeriac, with goats curd and pesto. To be honest I would often avoid the vegetarian 'roast' option if chicken or turkey are on offer but I am so glad they weren't because the vegetarian option that I had was simply gorgeous. The celeriac was cooked to perfection, the goats curd was soft, tasty and creamy, and the pesto was so tasty, all of this was served on a bed of small [wild?] mushrooms and topped with, I think, crispy onion. So often vegetarian food is an afterthought but not here. It was served with a platter of help yourself perfectly cooked veg - cabbage, carrots, green beans etc, cauliflower cheese and fabulous roast potatoes - definitely a 5 a day job. My son woofed down his roast beef, all the veg, and announced several times that the roasties were the best. Between us we polished off everything which meant no room for pudding so I can't comment on them this time [but they were yummy on all previous visits].It's brilliant that they are keeping the standards so high at this place. We'll be back on a Sunday again [and again]...

Cosy gastropub and brewery with a covered balcony, tiered garden and a menu of locally sourced British dishes.
Canât really complain about anything as there is nothing wrong with the roasts served here (and good gluten free options available too!) but canât help thinking theyâre a bit âschool dinnerâ style. Huge portions, slightly over cooked meat, thick gloopy gravy, kind of anaemic potatoes, cheap vegetables like peas and carrots rather than any dark greens or any interesting veg like roasted beetroot etc. Would come back if we were starving hungry but wouldnât come back for a âqualityâ roast.
