Atmosphere good, Waitress provided excellent service. Food portion on our set menu quite small and the dessert pretty poor. Quite a shame because the ambience is excellent.

We were spoilt as earlier in the day we ate at one of the local eateries off the beaten track and it was amazing in every way. We chose to have dinner here as it is right on the canal so the location is great and it was our last night so we thought it would be perfect. It was only ok - not great but also not the worst place we ate at on our 7 day barging trip. The cassoulet was lacking in comparison to the one we had enjoyed earlier in the day and the desserts weren't great. Perhaps choose a spot off the beaten track rather.

Castelnaudary is famous for its cassoulet (beans and sausage) but we had another southern specialty, salade de gésiers (gizzard salad). The gizzard was very well done and tasty, but the salad had a lot of oil on it. We should have asked the salad without dressing and take care of it ourselves. The restaurant is well in shade, so we could bear with 90 degrees Fahrenheit sitting outside, although many customers smoke as usual in France and make it hard to sit outdoors! Prices are very reasonable but many items on the menu are not cooked in the cafe, such as the mousse au chocolat, or the French fries don't come from potatoes peeled in there, but this is now very very common in cafes in France. At least these people are honest about it, and for 3.50 Euros, French Fries or croque monsieur are very reasonable. It was a very helpful and typical small town stop on our way to Toulouse.
