Reviews on Bar food in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. "For simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." So said Alexander Graham Bell of the island he adopted as his home. Rich with Celtic, Mi'kmaq and Acadian heritage, Cape Breton is a delight for history buffs, music lovers and explorers of nature. Immerse yourself in 18th-century life at the Fortress of Louisbourg, explore the winding roads and Atlantic vistas of the Cabot Trail, and seek out a local Ceilidh for a lively and rousing experience.

Come in & enjoy a homemade meal, while you sip on a crisp local ale, & take in the sounds of the Islands best musicians. We offer a full pub menu, 6 local draught on tap, several wine selections, & a fully stocked bar. Our chef puts out a daily special, a
Iona is pretty isolated. Surrounded by water and beautiful views. We came in late for lunch and got prompt service. We shared the seafood chowder and the seafood platter. Maybe the best chowder on the island. Really the best pub food you're going to get on Cape Breton. Of course next to the Highland Village.

Just to be clear, this is a review of the "fine dining" restaurant at Glen Ora, and not of the more casual pub. My husband and I found this restaurant to be an odd mixture of very good, and some real misses. We arrived at 7:30 pm to find the restaurant less than half full, however the receptionist had to check to make sure we had a reservation before seating us. Although no one else was seated after us, other people tried to, but were turned away. Odd. Perhaps they limited capacity because of kitchen or serving staff issues? BTW, the grounds of the distillery are well landscaped, at least near the restaurant (the front fountain needs some help). There was live music (piano) when we arrived, however the playing stopped at 8 pm and never resumed. There was not even any piped-in music, so the restaurant was eerily quiet for most of our meal.Successful dishes included: Digby scallops wrapped in bacon and a delicious sorbet/granita flavored with whiskey (how do they do that, since alcohol won't freeze?). Sesame crusted seared tuna was not bad, but I'm not sure this was prepared on site (it's available wholesale).Misses: stone cold bread basket and a fish chowder that was gloppy and had too little fishAll in all, not a bad meal, but not one to write home about. I will be sure to pass your comments along to the necessary departments. We are happy to read that you enjoyed the beautiful grounds as our gardener works so hard to keep everything beautiful at Glenora. The pipe jetting from the holding pond, although resembling a fountain, is actually a water return pipe from the distillery building which is necessary for when we are preparing to distill. We, being so rurally located, do have a staffing issue in all departments after our students leave to return to school. Our reason for checking that all guests have a reservation is solely because we have to try to time all seating's to ensure better service both from the servers and the kitchen. I'm happy to read that parts of your visit were enjoyed, and assure you we will take a closer look at the areas that were not. We appreciate your visit and your review. Thank you! Bertha

We stopped in here during a walk around the downtown area in Sydney. We split a plate of Nachos (there was soooo much melted cheese -yum!) and each had a draft.Staff was friendly and chatty and the food (nachos) was served hot and was a large portion full of toppings. Very large building with seating both inside and outside on a patio deck.5/5

McCurdy's Dining room is open from Mid May to Mid October for breakfast and dinner. Our a-la-carte menu is always available, and our popular breakfast buffet is featured most mornings from mid July through September. It features a wide selection of delici
My husband and I stayed in Baddeck for four nights and McCurdy's Dining Room was our favourite restaurant for dinner. (We had okay experiences elsewhere, but the food here stood out to us. We wanted something special for our dinners.) We chose McCurdy's following a recommendation from our B&B hosts. We enjoyed our first dinner so much (day 1) that we returned on our last night. We both hugely enjoyed the Maple Curry Seafood Fettuccine - it was absolutely delicious! I nearly ordered it again for our second dinner, but I decided to try the Thai Vegetable Stir Fry instead, which was very good. We also liked the Peanut Butter Cheesecake. For our first dinner, we sat outside on the terrace/patio area, which was lovely and peaceful. There was a bus tour inside at the same time, so we wanted a quieter dining experience. We were impressed by the efficiency of the food service given how busy the restaurant was (there weren't any long waits or delays). Overall, we enjoyed our meals here and we would return on any future visits to Baddeck.Thank you for your excellent review! We love getting feedback from our guests and appreciate your wonderful comments. Please dine with us again if you are ever back in the area. Thank you.

An original pub built in 1966 with astonishing view of the harbour and Cheticamp Island. Watch fishing boats or whale tour boats while enjoying a fabulous meal, a cold drink, or listening to one of our raved ceilidhs or live music acts. Many locals eat an
Hangout for the locals. Good, reasonably priced food. Not fancy at all. Friendly staff. They have live music some nights but we left before the performance We agree it is not fancy...Part of this is to keep the long living story of The Doryman...Its hard to decide if we change the inside, and put booths or what, but it will affect the sound for our live music. I am in the process of getting some new tables and chairs at least, and doping the washrooms over, and working on bar area...I'm happy that in most cases our food satifies our customers, and at a reasonable price. Service is also a major asset so i am glad it went ok, and thank for taking the time to review us...Hope to see you again....

We spent an evening in Port Hawkesbury on our way back to Ontario. The restaurant was full but not lined up out the door. The food was very good, however the owner should look to employ more wait staff. You can see this by the level of frustration they exhibited citing how busy they were and apologizing for the forgotten beverage as well as the main course arriving before the appetizers were half way done. So glad you enjoyed your meals. We are sorry to hear our wait staff wasn't on point that night and will definitely look into what the issues were that evening. We assure you that isn't the norm for us, as we have plenty of wait staff. Unfortunately, from time to time, things come up or happen that are out of our control. If you are ever in the area again, please give us another try, we promise we will not disappoint!!

I made a reservation on open table for 2 at 1130 and arrived 10 minutes later but was told that our table was given away! Adam, the host/server offered us a free drink while we waited for a table to become available, but that, too, never came. When I mentioned it to him, he said he came by where we were standing but I was looking on my phone. I guess he could have tried to get my attention but apparently he really wasn't interested in giving away a free drink so didn't bother to say anything and walked away. Adam was not a gracious host and made a poor impression for me regarding the service in Sydney, Canada.I believe Governor's Pub gets many reviews and a high ranking because of their close proximity to the cruise port. If this restaurant had a different location, I highly doubt it can attain its high ranking on TripAdvisor.

I hadn't had fish and chips so tried them here. They were good and filling. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. My friend had the chowder which was good also.
