We found this lovely bar a few minutes walk from our hotel. Perched on a high stool around a table that was a big barrel and sipping Madeira wine we soon felt in holiday mode! The staff were friendly talking us through the drinks on offer and taking our photo. Prices are reasonable. We missed out on eating here as didn't realise they served food until we'd eaten elsewhere. It's open until 2am and seems to be frequented by some of the hotel staff when they've finished their evening shift. We were on a three night break to Madeira and managed to fit in two visits to Peter's bar!

Stumbled on this place by mistake, what a fantastic place, the owner Ricardo is a real character and makes you feel like you have been drinking there for years, will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend it

Weâre not an easy family, I am a vegetarian myself and my brother has IBS (irritatable bowels syndrome) so finding a place to dine can be rather difficult. The menu offered a lot of choice and 4 vegetarian options as well. The service was just lovely, the staff is very friendly and above all, they just want to make sure that you enjoy your evening. Tonight my brothers bowels starting acting up so he was not able to finish his meal. The concerned staff asked if there was anything wrong with the food, anything else they could offer and even how they could help him. This is a quirky and hip burger place which provides very good food at reasonable prices. There were not a lot of tourists when we ate there but a lot of locals. We couldnât get a table outside but it was interesting to eat inside as it has some great drawings on the walls and the decoration was different from the norm.The burgers were tender and juicy and the chips were very good indeed. In some dishes the burgers do not come on buns but that didnât limit our enjoyment of them. However, if you like your burger in a bun, it is worth checking when you order. I also had lime mousse to follow which was tart and sweet at the same time. A great palate cleanser.The service was good even though they were very busy and it is also great value. A definite if you like a good burger and chips.

Visited straight from the plane. Great find in downtown. Too full for puds. Staff delightful and willing to chat through menu. The new girl who only started today. Call in for a beer or cold drink or coffee a snack or full meal. The fresh fish caught that day locally, severed with salad and chips with a herb dusting yum yum, the toasty and their own burgers with bacon I loved loved. We took a tuna toasty for the flight home so good. The staff very friendly, most spoke English, sensibly priced food and drink. It has a great local feel about it but not pretentious very relaxed.
