I went here with my wife and some family.I have been here before but many years ago and time has taken its toll. The ambiance of the restaurant is poor and the outdoor eating area needs some attention. There is a comprehensive menu but the prices are not in-line with the standard of this establishment, better value can be obtained elsewhere.

Beautiful old country pub inside, although we sat in the garden as it was a lovely evening. Fish and chips x 2 did not disappoint, in fact absolutely scrummy! Draught cider delicious, hubby very happy with his pint of London pride. Only low point was the little plastic sachets of mayonnaise, ketchup etc. Not very eco or nice tasting. Please, please change to a bottle of something nice. Thanks x

I see that it's a whole year since I visited The Queens; that's far too long. Had a wonderful celebratory dinner where Simon's legendary steak pudding was just one of the dishes eagerly consumed by our party. I gather it's so popular they dare not take it off the menu! Lovely friendly service, fabulous food as ever and at very reasonable prices. I know that the management doesn't put itself in the "fine dining" category, but I do! Oh, and the place was heaving with locals too so you know it's definitely the place to be. Why go elsewhere?

I will start with the good.Atmosphere was good even though it was a Monday. We ordered drinks while we waited for our friends.Service was good and attentive.Choice of meals was very good . I opted for the Thai curry my wife and friend ordered burgers and Sweet potatoes Katsu. Followed by cheesecake, Rhubarb crumble one with ice cream and two with custard.Food and service was outstanding and a credit. The not so good and hence my review score. The cocktails 2 4 1 offer good I ordered. Mojito and despite the young bar mans best effort it was a big let down and just tasted of water with mint. The second one was no better. Plenty of practice is needed . With taking his time to read how to prepare it , going to find mint and prepare it meant waiting ages for my drink. Others at the bar started to huff and puff waiting their turnI asked for local discount which was given and I also paid a £10 tip. When walking home I started to check my bill.I wasn’t advised when I paid the bill that a 10 % service charge had been added. Checking the menu on line as well, it is in very small writing that you find a discretionary 10 % added. I find that unfair not to even mention this when paying as I handed over the tip. Secondly it’s so small on the menu you can’t see it. So I have actually paid a tip twice. If I realised it was already added I would not of paid a tip. Also despite advertising Monday as BOGOF burgers we were charged for both and didn’t get one free. So all in all I have been over charged £22.00.My advice is check your bill and what you are paying for and allow lots of time if ordering a Cocktail. We will visit again as the food was so good and will defiantly check my bill this time.

We had eaten here before a few years ago and found the food good and service very acceptable but the menu was a bit limited and didn’t change very often so having exhausted all the options we stopped going. This visit was our first after a change of ownership or management (no sure which). Opening hours for food were quite limited as we visited on a Sunday and the kitchen closed at 1700 and there was nothing else on offer so as we wanted to try it we came back the following day. During the week days the kitchen opened at 1800 until 2100. Very limited menu and nothing outstanding on offer. We had sausage and mash with vegetables and scampi chips and peas. The scampi and chips were obviously cooked from frozen and the scampi was over cooked. The sausages were very nice but at nearly £13 for each meal it was overpriced and does not compare well with other local pubs / restaurants. Don’t think we will visit again for a while.

Having made a reservation some three weeks before, we were astonished to be greeted upon arrival with blank looks. However, the reaction of the staff in attendance clearly indicated that lost reservations are not uncommon. Luckily, we nevertheless got a table on the terrace. The starters arrived swiftly, but everything slowed down thereafter. Even going to the bar ourselves to order drinks took time, with only one girl actually tending the bar and another three staff members looking busy while not performing anything obviously useful. When we ordered desserts we were informed that some of the ice-cream choices were unavailable as there were problems with the freezer. The ice-cream desserts that we did order came without the advertised brandy baskets. When we pointed this out we were told that the chef had forgotten to put in an order for them (as would have been known at the beginning of the day). This used to be a lovely pub.

Stayed for 2 nights (writing this on my last night, sat still hungry in my room!)First night meal was good actually, though service was a bit haphazard given I was one of only about 4 people in the place. Tonight different story, place was packed (turns out it’s quiz night), so even worse service, followed by the absolute worst steak I’ve ever been served (hint: either buy better quality or invest in steak knives because they’re inedible and impossible to cut otherwise), joined with the least peppercorny peppercorn sauce (at least if the sauce was good it would have masked the crap steak a bit). It was also just this side of Luke warm. Given the waitress was also the barmaid I can appreciate she was struggling. Impossible to complain as I never saw her back at the table so after 30 mins just left the whole lot congealing on the plate while I waited patiently at the bar for another 20 mins being ignored just to pay for the crappy food I didn’t eat. As you can tell, I’m grumpy when I’m hungry. Would be good if they just explained that a quiz was due, especially when the quiz master said that the quiz would have to be delayed as ‘apparently people are still eating’ like we were bloody pariahs or something. Unimpressed.Thank you for taking the time to share your views with us.I am sorry you did not enjoy your dining experience with us. We were unusually very busy for our quiz night and therefor our bar team were extremely busy.We have had lots of glowing comments about our food including our steaks so I am disappointed that you did not enjoy yours. I am sorry that the waitress was not able to check on your meal once you had been served, due to how busy we were. Had you have mentioned your disappointment to the bar man when paying, we would most certainly have offered to cook you another steak and bring it to your room or taken it off your bill.We value all comments both good and not so good so thank you once again for taking the time to review us.Kind regardsTracy BalenOwner
