Second visit here for Sunday lunch and every bit as good as the first. Potato skins to start, and lots of them ! Roast beef for main, superb again, the best beef ever. Loads of meat, in stark contrast to the place we ate at last Sunday ! Left both very full and highly satisfied, in stark contrast to the place we ate at last Sunday ! Very friendly, professional and efficient service, and owners who clearly make a real personal effort to ensure their customers are satisfied. Thanks again, and wonât be long before weâre back. Thank you so much for your brilliant review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your meal with us on Sunday. We love that you liked our friendly professional and efficient service along with our lovely food. We hope we can welcome you back soon. Thank you once again.

Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend. Location is superb just off the market square and within walking distance of the castle and gardens and Barter books. The staff in particular the young man from America were all friendly and polite. The bar area is nice for a drink. They also have a restaurant or you can eat in the bar but we canât comment on the food as we didnât eat here. Now the room was ok it was just a bit grubby. Looked like it had had a coat of paint but not a good clean. Bathroom taps were dirty round the bottom and the skirting boards were very dusty. I dropped something on the floor and by the side of the beds was very dusty too. Towels were clean and were changed after 2 days. Beds and bedding wasnât touched in 3 days and again looked a bit grubby. We just thought that at £90 per night without breakfast we would have expected a better standard of cleanliness.

A fully re-furbished 1820's Coaching Inn, originally built by the 3rd Duke of Northumberland. Beautiful bar, lounge and restaurant, immaculately decorated and next to the River Coquet. Six luxury en-suite rooms, accredited 5* by Quality in Tourism/Visit E
So... we arrived for our meal at 1.30 and were welcomed and shown to our table. Drink orders were taken and food orders placed. Quite a long wait for food and no offer of more drinks while we waited? Food arrived but one meal missing. Food very average and for the following reasons:Steak and Ale pie was supposed to be homemade? Looked bought in and pastry very tough. Not much filling and steak chewy.Burgers a huge disappointment. Brioche buns dry and burgers tough and dry. Chips with steak pie not very good and not many of them? Peas with steak pie very dry and shrivelled up! Puddings not much better. Tiny little dish for custard with a huge kids portion of crumble? At no point were we offered more drinks and we were there for 2 hours. Asked for military discount and asked to show an ID card. All in all a very disappointing experience and customer care not good. Food very average and will be going to the Ridley Arms next time. Dear GuestWe apologise if you feel we did not meet your expectations on your recent visit. Having spoken to our duty manager, we were of the opinion that there weren't any problems, as when we checked back on your table when food had arrived, there were no comments passed onto us. Had you mentioned any items not to your liking then, we would have most certainly dealt with anything we could. Rest assured our pies are made from scratch in-house.We are also sorry if we offended you in any way by asking for ID; I'm sure you can appreciate when we are offering a substantial 25% discount to military personnel, it is normal practice to request ID from customers. We value your custom and hope you will consider us in the future.Vanessa CGuest Relations

Visited here many times in the past and it never fails to impress! A very warm friendly welcome and amazing traditional food cooked to a very high standard. The potions are plentiful and tasty . I had the liver, bacon and onions and my husband had chicken and leek pie. Following that we had spotted dick and custard. Superb!! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone â¤ï¸

A quintessential, picturesque English pub with an award winning flower arrangement featured around the grounds, large beer gardens to the front and rear serving a light bites, British Classics and refined al a carte menus to suit all tastes.
In the area again so based on previous visits decided to go for lunch. Will not be hurrying back. Definitely not as good as previous visits. My wife had Fish and chips, fish was fine most of the chips were inedible. I had the Calf liver which would have been better if the meal had been hot and maybe served on a warm plate. Vegetables were very unappetising and a small portion. I did eat my meal as I was peckish and only pointed out the faults when the waitress came to clear. She said she would report my observations to the manager who consequently did not have the courtesy to come out and speak to me just a half hearted apology via the waitress who I might say was quite pleasant and apologised for as she put it just being the messenger. I had not been looking for a reduction on the bill but the offer of perhaps a Coffee would not have been amiss.Sorry John , I know you wanted a free coffee or some sort of compensation, but I have repeatedly said on this site , please do say something when asked , this is the whole reason the courtesy check was invented and employed by virtually every restaurant on the planet , so restaurants can quickly identify unhappy customers and have the chance to make an unhappy customer happy again , you however decided to tell our staff the opposite of the way you were feeling and decided to sit and be unhappy with your meal , leave the table unhappy , walk to the bar and complain about how unhappy you were , and then complain on this site that you felt you should have received some sort of free item or coffee etc , sorry John I donât entertain this , I donât tell my Barbour I love my hair when he has butchered my locks within an inch of their life then upon paying tell him I hate it and want something free off him? Then write a review about him , so yeah , probably should have said something

Always my 1st Choice on any visit to the area! Friendly and helpful staff, spotless room, delicious food....what more do you need?I had Room 3 this time. This room is the only one which is not En-Suite but it comes with a huge Private Shower Room at the end of the corridor with towelling robes provided for users of this room for the trip between the two. This was explained at the time I made my Booking and I would happily REQUEST this room again! Many thanks to everyone at The Sun Inn.....hope to see you again soon!

Worth booking ahead- popped in on a Saturday as two couples and two dogs and was turned away.Popped back the following week (Thursday)and was rewarded with some beautiful Italian food. Great friendly staff too.The H&A has two large areas one of which is dog friendly. Would recommend.

My wife and I had a really, really good dinner at the Red Lion this evening, sadly the last day of our holiday in Alnmouth. We both greatly enjoyed our food which was so delicious. My wife had a blue cheese, pear and walnut salad followed by a chicken dish whilst I started with a cream of vegetable soup, followed by lambs liver & bacon. My soup was thick and tasty - nothing like a tinned soup - and my liver & bacon was full of flavour. I had a generous side dish of mixed vegetables, not overcooked. My wife enjoyed both her dishes and I tried her chicken dish that I found totally scrummy. The service by a small team of young waitresses was excellent: they were busy but efficient, unflustered and good humoured. We were not left waiting for too long.Thank you to everybody at the Red Lion for a memorable evening, we really appreciate it.
