Things to do in Alamosa

We hadn't been to Rubi Slipper in a while, so decided to visit again. Their prices are a bit higher than most restaurants in Alamosa (which is why we usually don't go there), but they do have a really extensive menu, offering southwestern items, TONS of burgers (probably at least 30 different choices), other sandwiches, etc. So if you have a big group of people dining out together, it's a good choice since there should be something on the menu to satisfy everyone. They also make their own desserts, which are usually really good. However, last night (a Saturday night) they had NO desserts available at all. Really strange since it is the busiest night of the week.

They have a great and interesting selection of beers, I particularly liked the green chili lager (though I love green chili so not to everyones taste). The food was fine but not outstanding. The place was quite busy and buzzing when we went. The building is quite interesting and old for the area.

On our first night in Alamosa we decided to opt for a known entity, in this case Chili's. Having dined in several Chili's across the U.S., we knew what to expect. The food was well-prepared and the service acceptable. Chili's can tend to get very busy, which may result in a wait, but that was not the case here despite the crowd. The garden salad with chicken was very good. The fajitas (in this case chicken) are always a good bet and a very good value.

This place is a joke! I found huge lumps of flour in my green chili, and when asked to speak with a manager, the clueless waitress directed me to the owner ( who was dressed in what appeared to be pajama shorts and a big messy t-shirt) she had no interest in what the issue was, just very persistent on us paying for the plate. By no means were we out for a free meal, I just did not want to return home with an empty stomach. As if that wasn't a circus in itself, my husband (a retired veteran, with a salt and pepper beard) was carded when he ordered a beer! The teenager, or at least I am assuming she was anyway, told us she had to wait for someone to pour his beverage, but when he ordered another, she did not hesitate to go behind the bar and pour him another beer. I did not understand what that was all about but I will say that I will never give that place another dime, nor will I recommend it to friends and family.
Love the burgers, their guacamole is fresh, salsa is good, fries are made fresh to order. Our favorite dish to share is the Chicken Avocado taco, one order is good for two people. The tacos are served on pita bread and the ingredients are really tasty! Their green chili is a bit watery, but has a nice flavor and good kick.
