This Indian restaurant is under new ownership and recently re-furbished with a slight change of name from Zaffran to Saffron Lounge. We pre-booked for a week-night tea-time and were intrigued to see the new decor which is a subtle fusion of different cultures. There are fabulous rose-gold Moroccan-styled light shades, a bubble wall behind the optics and a contemporary designed interior. It was our first visit to the restaurant so we were unable to compare it to the previous decor. The restaurant extends quite a long way back so there are plenty of tables. It was not over busy the night we visited. There seemed to be a wide choice on the menu, including a few veggie options for my vegetarian friend. We started with a pickle tray and poppadoms followed by a vegetarian korma and a lamb passanda with pilau rice and a naan bread to share. Everything was tasty, hot and well cooked. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly and kept checking that everything was OK but were a little over-keen to remove plates before we had completely finished! We asked for the sweet menu and sadly there is none yet! They need to get a freezer apparently. Sorry, but had to mark you down for that! We were a little disappointed but ordered more drinks instead. The total bill was about £43 with drinks. The bar bill was totalled on the hand written bill so it was a little hard to work out what we both owed as one of us was on wine and the other on soft drinks. However we coped and will be quite happy to return another time.

When I go out for a meal, I don't often think of going for an Indian. On this occasion though, I fancied an Indian meal and was recommended Bengal Lounge. My wife and I arrived and were sat at our reserved table right when we arrived. We ordered drinks and were served those promptly. We each ordered a starter and main. The food was very lovely, hot and spiced just right. The Naan bread was really tasty and perfect to mop up the extra sauce on the plate. It was a good meal and reasonable priced...I'd defo go back!

We have visited this restaurant before as a group and been pretty happy with the food and service - but we were extremely disappointed this time. The food was incredibly bland ; almost everyone was truly disappointed with their plate - and quite a few dishes were served only luke warmThe service was slow and unfriendly - and it wasn't even busyWe certainly will not be visiting again - they don't deserve our custom

The food here is wonderful here, but that is only part of the overall dining experience. This visit was not particularly good from a service point of view- rather slow and 'surly' ? Certainly not what we expected. Restaurant lacked any atmosphere. We will return when back in Hull as the food is wonderful but they do need to address the important ' service' aspects. They have been trading at this site for some time and should therefore know what is expected in this department ?!

Fully licensed restaurant. There's a range of freshly cook starters, main dishes and sides. Special 4 course meal available from sunday-thursday £11.95.
Came here with my other half because to be quite honest I couldn't be bothered to cook! We ate from the set menu which was excellent value for money at 12 quid for 4 courses pp. Well, as my OH said....you can't cook it for cheaper and he was right! Popadoms and pickle tray, followed by a starter of your choice (mine was onion bhajis, which were HUGE). Followed by butter chicken and fluffy rice all washed down with a coffee ( that was after the bottle of red... and on a school night)Thanks Debbie, yes we do have a high quality menu offering a four course under £12. We're glad you enjoyed it. Also thanks for the review, much appreciated.

This review was originally posted on my blog. If you have found it helpful, please check my blog out and leave a comment.Sometimes you can't beat staying in with a takeaway on a Saturday night. The debate in our house is always between Chinese, Indian or pizza. On this occasion, the Indian won and we ordered from Cottingham Tandoori.Cottingham Tandoori has been a go to for Indian food for us for a while. It's very rare that we get something that disappoints.Occasionally we order something that is too hot or not hot enough. On this occasion, we ordered a Chicken Thali with an extra naan bread and some poppadoms.I was told the order would be ready in 15 minutes and it was ready right on time. The food didn't disappoint, as normal. The chicken curry and chicken bhuna were well flavoured and not too hot for the various tastes in the house. There was plenty of food to go round, and not much left at the end. The thali comes with rice, chicken kebab and mixed vegetable bhajee, and at a price which is good value. We were all left feeling full and I know for sure that we'll be ordering from here again. We're always greeted with a friendly smile and never kept waiting for our food. In fact, writing this, I'm already looking forward to my next curry from here.
