Great place to visit.Wine tasting and restaurant. Moderately priced. The best steak sandwich ever. Cooked to perfection. We had a vegan with us and she enjoyed her meal and said it was very tasty. Two other dishes were had and they were also tasty. Wine tasting is handy to try before you buy a bottle for the table. Very nice fresh white wines. Service was great, a, ambiance, pleasant surrounds and decor.Highly recommend for an afternoon lunch with friends.

My wife and I were staying in McLaren Vale for our wedding anniversary, and after reading outstanding reviews of The Barn we were excited to have a romantic dinner there. At first appearances it seemed pretty nice - the cellar where you can peruse wines was well presented with a decent range, and the gin bar in the entrance room is pretty cool. However, once we were seated right next to the kitchen, at a dated 70s-brown retro table, things began to go downhill. We opened our tattered, stained, paper menus and ordered a few entrees to start, as well as some wine and a gin. The entrees sounded good from the menu descriptions, and we were optimistic despite the smell of cooking oil beginning to rapidly envelope our poorly ventilated eating area. The wine was pretty good, but letâs be honest all they had to do was open the bottle. The gin delivered to the table was nicely garnished and quite tasty, however it wasnât the gin that we had ordered. We decided not to complain about the gin, as our waitress was nice and friendly, but the restaurant manager seemed very peculiar and was inappropriately micromanaging our waitress in front of patrons - we thought sheâd get into trouble about the gin order, so we let it be. A plate of complimentary bread, butter and olives was brought out shortly after the drinks. This was reasonably tasty, and ultimately it proved to be the best food that was served. Before the complimentary plate was finished, three entrees were served: mushroom thyme pate, a squid dish, and a kingfish sashimi. The pate was incredibly bland, it was as though the chef completely forgot to season it - we were unable to muster the appetite to finish this, even after giving it a bit of salt. The squid dish was comparable to something youâd expect from a mid-low range pub bistro, one of those bistros with an all you can eat salad bar and keno. Weâve had a lot of kingfish sashimi in our time, and after the first mouthful my wife and I looked at each other, both pulling a face of âsomething isnât quite right, this tastes like old fishâ... potentially we were wrong, but we certainly didnât get anything close to the fresh and clean flavours we expected. After agreeing that we werenât going to stick it out only to be disappointed with a comparably poor couple of main courses, we knocked back our drinks, quickly stuffed down what was semi-palatable, and got the bill.As we were still hungry we then went for takeaway pizza. Cannot recommend The Barn and wonât be back in a hurry, which is a shame for what looked like a really nice restaurant from our first impressions.

We booked a celebratory family lunch one sunny winter's Sunday and enjoyed some wine tasting before our meal. The all-inclusive roast lunch consisted of substantial shared appetisers, roast lamb main course and dessert. Fantastic value for $50. The meal was delicious, as were the wines and the service was outstanding. the one-year old in our party was easily accommodated and the tables in the very pleasant courtyard dining room were well spaced so that other diners were not disturbed by our celebration. We enjoyed wandering around the gorgeous gardens and admired the fabulous views. Compliments to the staff both in the tasting room and the restaurant for their excellent service. Highly recommended.

It is a great place to visit, but for the rude behave of bartender in the courtyard... it seems children are not welcome in this place.really upset by this sperience in Serafino....Dear Josel491, We find this allegation difficult to believe as children of all ages are greeted with a friendly, warm smile - at our wedding venue, accommodation, Chef hat Restaurant and Cellar door.We tried to contact you to find out more details about this alleged incident but we are yet to hear back from you. Maxwell Restaurant is an idyllic location for an unforgettable food and wine experience. The stunning limestone building is complemented by large picture windows and breathtaking views overlooking the rolling hills of McLaren Vale. Showcasing the best of
We came here while visiting the area for a few days. We had asked some Adelaide friends for recommendations of where to eat and this was one that they recommended. We came here for Saturday lunch on a pretty bleak day but it was warm and cosy inside. We arrived early for lunch and, as we were having the degustation, we were able to taste whatever we liked in the tasting room before lunch. We had a wonderful hostess from Argentina serving us in the tasting area. She really brought the wines to life and made the start of our visit most enjoyable. We then moved into the restaurant where we had a table with a lovely outlook. We had the large degustation and my wife had the matching wines - I had to drive :-( . All of the courses were excellent with our favourite being the scallop one. The whole afternoon was such a relaxed and enjoyable time with food that is more like art than food (in the best way!). Make sure you come here if you can.

Salopian Inn Mclaren Vale reopened with an inspired refit of the 1853 homestead. Contemporary Australian cuisine with regional seasonal menu, exceptional local and international wine cellar with a tantalising list of exotic gin. We are open for lunch ever
Some locals at the B&B where we are staying recommended The Salopian Inn, and we were not disappointed. We opted to try a number of entrees, rather than have main courses. The cuisine is a mash-up of Asian and Australian. We tried the prawn dumplings, pork buns, kangaroo tail, and fresh garden salad. All were excellent. For dessert, my wife enjoyed their take on an ice cream sandwich. The service was superb. And they have one of the best gin lists I've ever seen--5 pages full of gins, most from Australia.

We definitely had the degustation experience. We had a quick tasting beforehand and then shown to our table and the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. Each course was explained in detail and each one was an explosion of flavours. So much detail went into every course. We did not have the pairing of wines as I was driving but a lot of the other patrons were enjoying the whole package. The Cube is an incredible concept very quirky and fun. We checked out the Dali exhibition as well, incredible works - interesting for me as I had just visited the Dali Museum in Figueres Spain. An interesting and clever man!!! When exploring the building we looked into the kitchen and the chefs were preparing with so much precision and passion!!!!

Located in a restored 1916 currant drying shed and set amongst a Tahitian lime grove and borded by vineyard, The Currant Shed restaurant serves regionally inspired lunches in a truly relaxed environment.Open Thursday- Tuesday for lunch from 1130
Decided to have the 6-course-meal with pairing wines and did not regret any second of it. We enjoyed every course and the enthusiasm with which the waiters explained what was what and why.Special requests were met without blinking the eyes and the âfinal verdictâ was what to be expected for this quality and service! We highly recommend.
