Things to do in Ararat
We went there for Mother's Day Lunch, the steak sandwich looked nice; I ordered the parma. I told my husband his steak looked nice and he asked me if I wanted to swap - I asked why, he doesn't like any fat on the steak at all - which is ok by me, so we swapped. Even someone like me who likes some fat on the steak found this just awful, all I got was fat, grease and gristle. My husband said there was way too much cheese on the parma, it was average at best.
The Leopold Hotel offers an Australian modern pub meal with a twist open lunch & Dinner.
My daughter and i went on a sat night for an early tea. We ordered the boscialo parmi. The meal was large serving. The schnitzel was freshly made. The sauce on top was delicious. The lady owner of the restaurant was very friendly. We were chatting the whole time we were waiting and again after we had finished our meals. The chef was also very friendly. Overall, i can highly recommend eating here. Excellent food, friendly service from all.

Although this Cafe is in the centre of town being Barkly St Ararat we often stop off here on way through to Melbourne from Nhill. There is a bypass you can take and of course miss out on the main centre of town where the coffee and lunch shops are. Great Cafe, wonderful owners who have been up in Ararat for over 5 years and always welcome you into their Cafe. Try the eggs benedict which is superb and the coffee is great but ask for a hot hot hot cup and strong or you may get a cup of milk. We have got to know the owners and make this Cafe to what it is now. Opposite the Post Office and there is usually plenty of parking although meter charged. Ararat is on the way through to the Grampians and a good 'stop off' to replenish your caravan or whatever. Enjoy!

If you love parmas then this place is for you, with about ten varieties to pick from you are bound to find a favourite. I went with the English Parma (mash potato, bacon & gravy) and was not disappointed, colleague had the Mexican (salsa, tacos chips, sour cream and guacamole). The bistro is modern and clean with plenty of seating with bar, pokies and tote in the next room. There is a special board with a good mix and then a full menu. The staff were all friendly and meals arrived quite quickly. Great place and I will return when in town next time

Quality menu - excellent value - casual, family friendly dining Chally's Bar and Bistro has something for everyone in a relaxed and social atmosphere. Excellent quality lunch and dinner menus with a wide variety of dishes, daily specials, a range of local
I went to Chally's about 2 months ago and had a terrible meal but I thought I would give the cook the benefit of the doubt and not write a bad review. Maybe he/she had an off night, who knows. I re-attended today and nothing changed. Food was as terrible as it was 2 months ago so here it goes.First meal, I ordered the scotch fillet (medium rare) with pepper sauce. Nothing fancy just a basic meal that any one could prepare. My fillet was well over done and the watered down sauce was almost inedible. I expressed my concerns to the young waitress who didnt know how to react. No worries, I left and came back 2 months later. Hopefully to experience an edible dish.I ordered the slow cooked lamb shoulder with greek salad. No idea what the cook was thinking but it was just aweful.....The meat was disgusting and the salad was equally aweful....Whoever is responsible for cooking at Chally should have a good hard think about cooking and presenting very basic meals....will never be back or even think about recommending this place to anyone..Hello Mario, I'm very sorry to hear that you had two poor experiences at Challys and apologise sincerely. Your review has been passed onto our Head Chef and Hospitality Manager for their attention. We called in here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We chose the vegetarian, and parmigiana focaccias and were delighted with our choices. Sit outside under the grapevines and enjoy the coffee and watch life go by. The coffee was tasty, and there was a wide variety of treats to go with the coffee if you want sweets.Thankyou for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us and appreciate your kind words :)

We were recommended this place by the caravan park we were staying at. We ordered a steak meal and two open steak sandwiches. The meals came out relatively quick and looked amazing. The steak in all three meals though, and the chips, all tasted funny. Not sure if it was the oil being used or what the go was. It is also far more expensive to eat here than at the local RSL, who have a much nicer atmosphere and better tasting meals. Pretty disapppointed as this place was talked up a lot on trip advisor and by the locals. We didnt eat here again, and we stayed in Ararat for 3 nights.

Salingers Cafe, established in 1861 in the wine and food villiage of the Grampians, Great Western. Salingers Cafe is a play between the historic building and modern dining. The exposed brick walls and polished wooden floors gives the cafe a warm ambiance,
We stayed in Great Western overnight to see where my mum grew up. We had breakfast at Salingers and it was delicious. I had the chilli scrambled eggs which were served with a very generous dide of smoked salmon. My husband had the bacon and eggs. The coffee was good and my pot of tea was stong and hot. Just how I like it! Judging from the steady stream of customers this is a popular spot to stop on the way through town.Thank you for making the journey back to Great Western. As you would have seen, the town is very rich in history. Thank you also for taking the time to leave a review. We hope to see you again in Great Western soon.
