Discover Restaurants offering the best Asian food in York, England, United Kingdom. Just two hours north of London by rail, the city of York holds 1900 years' worth of history in its ancient walls. The Romans built the city in 71 AD, and the Vikings captured it in 866 AD. Stop by the Yorkshire Museum and Gardens for a look at what the Roman and Vikings left behind (they must have packed light when they left). From there, move on to the York Castle Museum for a not-so-quick overview of the most recent 400 years.

One VERY RUDE waitress! The 3 old asked to go to the toilet and the waitress told her Mother to keep the child quiet. We all ordered our drinks and meals, chatting away whilst waiting. There were 2 tables who had finished and waiting to pay, a young man on his own sat at a corner table on his phone. During the Starters the waitress came over and insisted that the 3 year old stops being noisy - none of us understood why she said this as the child was exceptionally well behaved, sat on her chair just joining in our group's conversation. The waitress got very irate saying people were complaining that the child was 'too loud' but would not divulge who complained and at this point the Mother of said child commented that the waitress was being the loudest out of everyone. We were asked if we wanted our Main Course at that point suggesting we eat up and pay up and leave. We all questioned the waitress re the child being loud and stated that she absolutely was not. Feeling very uncomfortable and not willing to stay any longer we left and WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

Upper River is small business run by a family who lived in Hong Kong. We are selling authentic Hong Kong food, which are quite different to typical Chinese restaurant in UK.
Food was good, but we wish we'd known there is no licence.I don't mind chinese tea,but we would have liked a bottle of wine.

The noodles are very sweet! The ecology of women's service at the door is very poor. It's very rude. I've never seen a service as bad as hers. I'm terribly bad at this restaurant because I get this service! You know the price is not very cheap in such a place!. At least give the guests a good dining environment. Very bad experience! Curry and soup are all right! Milk tea is also good! No dessert noodles if u donât like sweet food ..

We had booked for a pre theatre meal, thinking 90 minutes would be enough time. However as all dishes are cooked from scratch we finished having to rush our meal. The food was very nice but if we go again we will allow much longer!

Bamboo Thai offers Authentic Thai food to eat in or take away. We use fresh ingredients and our food is very good value. All cooked by Thai chefs that have a real passion for cooking.
This family run Thai restaurant is a welcome and relatively recent addition to the dining options in York. Originally a Thai takeaway it has been converted into a fully-fledged restaurant and noodle bar, that also offers home delivery in York. We ate there on a weekend, when the place wasnât too busy but the atmosphere was friendly and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. We settled for two types of Thai beer, Leo and Singha, and a traditional fragrant Thai soup, Tom tum as a starter â all were real winners. Tom tum is a traditional sour and spicy broth, seasoned with lime leaves, lemon grass, chilli, mushrooms, and lime juice. The menu is extensive with a range of noodle dishes, curry, rice dishes, fish, soups and vegetarian dishes. We had two roast duck dishes as mains, both £11.50. The tamarind dish combined curry with large chunks of fried potato, carrots, shallots, Spanish onions, Thai herbs and a delicious peanut flavoured creamy coconut sauce. The roast duck with ginger dish combined stir fry with fresh ginger, celery, and onions. The service was very friendly and professional â we highly recommend this restaurant and hope to return.

As a party of 4 we recently visited the restaurant from the Trip Advisor rating. The place was fairly nicely arranged, and the staff were mainly friendly. The service was generally efficient, but out of the three different main courses that we had, the base curry was watery, and they all lacked depth of flavour. The meal was fairly reasonably priced, and for a Sunday evening, the place was full.

Went recently on the basis of personal recommendations, but really can't see what the fuss is about. We had a laal maas (a lamb dish), a dal (waiter's recommendation), and a paneer dish (again the waiter's recommendation). The three were close to indistinguishable from one another. The lamb dish pulled the (now sadly quite common) trick of really paring back on the meat, so was very sauce heavy. The paneer pieces were close to melting, so no texture there either. The dal wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. So three pretty sad looking bowls of brown gravy. They didn't taste very different from one another. Also be warned they go heavy on the salt!Maybe we mis-ordered, but a) this risk shouldn't happen, and b) we asked for recommendations for two of the dishes. The three dishes definitely didn't work together. The rice and naan breads are pretty good.Dear Andy,Thank you for your recent visit to our restaurant, we are sorry that you didn't enjoy and would have been happy to rectify had this been raised in the restaurant itself. All the food is prepared fresh and have distinguished flavours ranging from different parts of India, our meat is of very high quality supplied by Mk butchers of York from the very first day we have opened. The recommendations would have been made towards your liking and sorry it didn't match your taste. All the 3 dishes you mentioned are very different in taste and texture and varies from north to western parts of India. Apologies again and hope you would give us another try. Look forward to see you again.Regards

Really good Indian food, there was lot's on the menu that we were unfamiliar with so we had a mixture of dishes called Lagoon Sadya, which was excellent. Very pleasant staff, we were served quickly and the food didn't take long to prepare. We would thoroughly recommend.

Awarding winning chef fully estabilished since 1996.
It's disappointing that we have to give this restaurant an average rating because the food was very good especially the Special combo starter which was outstanding but the problem was the noise. The music that was played was almost nightclub level with the result that customers were having to shout at each other which made it even more uncomfortable. While our plates were being cleared I mentioned to the waiter that the music was too loud for comfort and he said; 'that's how the boss likes it'.Not long after we had complained about the noise, our bill was brought to us without us having asked for it.We were more than happy to leave anyway as we longed for some peace and quiet.Sadly we can't recommend this restaurant and would not return.
