This place beats most sushi restaurants we used to visit in Lower Mainland! Taking one point off only on account of the rice yesterday at lunchtime - might have been from the previous evening batch. Do try "monkey brains" - seems like Island specialty, we had it in Langford and now here, but never seen it on the menu in Vancouver.

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before going because we would have missed a great meal. We'd dithered about where to go for dinner and decided to try The Firehouse Grill because we'd never been there. We were greeted and seated promptly at a table for two. When the booth next to us vacated we asked if we could switch and were accommodated without hesitation. Coffee and refills were served promptly and our server (petite girl, pony tail - didn't get her name) was extremely observant of our needs and very friendly. My husband selected from the Sushi menu, a choice I was hesitant about since this is a Grill House. However, not only was his selection artistically presented, it was also delicious. Who'd have thought. I opted for the Californian burger with grilled chicken breast instead of beef. It came with a spicy crab topping and cucumber and avocado. It looked a little barren, but it was very tasty. We topped of the evening with the Firehouse Cheesecake. Since I love coconut, this was the perfect choice. Again, presented nicely and flavorful. If the standard of service and food we experienced this evening is the norm, we would definitely go back. I strongly recommend you give this place a try.

Enjoyed the food in spite of the inedible bits in my soup, comfortable atmosphere, loved the decor, open to the street (in the summer I imagine) but the woman asking if we wanted drinks was a bit unfriendly or possibly impatient. The young woman who delivered the food was friendly and courteous. Great menu, lots of choice

Best sushi in Nanaimo. Whether you are in need of quick sushi fix on the go or to dine under the everlasting cherry blossom, Umai Sushi got you covered.
We came here because it was the first result when looking for nice outdoor patio seating in Nanaimo. But there's no seating at all... so Tripadvisor should look into fixing that. Aside from that the food was incredible, and the value is excellent, would definitely reccomendHello Matthew,Thank you for taking the time giving us positive feedback. We greatly appreciate that you liked our food and the value. We will fix the outside patio option to prevent confusion. We hope to see you soon!

SIMONHOLT is a family friendly Nanaimo destination that features a diverse menu based on the refined palette of Chef priding itself on a 'mainly from scratch' kitchen. We offer an extensive wine selection of both red and white by the glass, a fully stocke
The restaurant has a very spacious and attractive interior. Has ample parking but is in an odd if not out-of-the-way location. The service was fine but not overly attentive. That said, and most importantly, we have been there several times but I wouldnât re-order any of the items that Iâve had.

There is a lot to like about this place, surprisingly hidden in the depths of a strip mall. The staff is absolutely superb as they are extremely professional, proper, and attentive. The restaurant itself is fairly elegant and well kept. The food is very good indeed as it is fresh and well prepared, but I found the pho lacking on a couple of important aspects. First of all, the large bowl is about the size of the regular bowl in other places (I'm looking at you Pho Boi), and the texture of the beef ball is a bit offputting to my Western palate. I am not disputing that it's original and authentic, but I found it hard to swallow.

Food all made-to-order and arrives at the table piping hot. Service thus not very fast. Appetizer spring rolls and crispy wontons tasty and not greasy. Green curry had an excellent flavourful broth with crisp vegetables. âPrawnsâ in two dishes were a disappointmentâactually small overcooked shrimp.

Family owned and operated since 1998, Huong Lan is where Islanders go to experience authentic Vietnamese cuisine on Vancouver Island.
We have never ate in, we always pick up & take home. We have NEVER had a bad meal - enjoy more than Chinese - fresher tasting. We get #28 - but instead of grilled pork patty we sub with grilled chicken pieces. Donât know why this isnât on the menu .. we were introduced to it at Vietnamese rest. In Calgary - just glad H.L. makes it for us. The staff behind counter & cash are great - Keep on doing the great job you do, one day weâll eat in ;)

We arrived just as they were opening and joined another 20 or so people outside. It was my first time visiting here and it looked like a popular place to be. Upon entry to the restaurant though I was left to wonder what they had actually done during the period they were closed because they certainly hadnât cleaned. Under our table was enough rice to put together a small California roll! It was not a good look. I didnât say anything though as it looked like the rest of the floor was in a similar state, they could have only moved us to a table with a bit less rice under it. We ordered and it took a bit of a while to arrive but when it did, it was worth the wait. The sushi was amazing! If I ever come back here, itâll be to get take away - the sushi is spot on but the restaurant needs some work. Wouldnât eat in there again.
