Reviews on Asian food in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Just 45 minutes out of the city, the East Coast Road first stops at the historic town of Mahabalipuram. The 7th century erstwhile port city is famous for its rock-cut shore temples. A lone lighthouse on a hill watches over a group of temples below. Mahabalipuram also has some great cafes that serve good sea food. A backpacker’s delight, one can find cheap accommodations and plenty of activities.

I brought student groups to India for 25 years and every time we visited Mahabalipuram, we ate lunch at Golden Palate Restaurant at the Hotel Mamalla Heritage. It is the best food in Mahabalipuram . . . and possibly the best food in India! Many times, the students would insist on eating at Golden Palate the second day because they enjoyed the food so much. In addition to delicious food, Golden Palate Restaurant has a very friendly and efficient staff and a very clean and comfortable setting (it is one of the only AC restaurants in Mahabalipuram). I highly recommend it!!

We are on a road journey to Pondicherry from Chennai airport and were looking a reliable place to stop by and eat when we spotted A2B. This is a restaurant in middle of a green patch. The main restaurant was shut and we were diverted to the open air café. Being a hot day it was difficult to be comfortable under the tin roof. The food and service compensated the heat. The menu was limited as it was mid morning. We had some awesome dosa's with some good fresh juice. They have fairly decent washrooms...in short a good pit stop to refresh

We had our meals here during our stay at the radisson blu hotel. The food spread is very good and has a huge variety of both local and other varieties. The deserts are very good and has a wide variety. The set up is also very pleasing.

Our group had a great dinner here. Nice location, amazing red snapper with both coconut and lemon rice and very friendly and accommodating hosts. They even took us through the various steps of making the dishes too, which was great to watch. Highly recommended. Note- there were quite a lot of mozzies around town at that time of year but thanks to the mosquito coils they laid down for us and the bug spray, not one of us got bitten the whole night.

I am not prone to complaining but I must comment . Waited over an hour for drinks and food to arrive . The waitress was charming but could not alter the situation . When my fish curry arrived it was inedible. The manager was understanding and did not charge me for this meal. Other meals provided to my family were also pretty ordinary but they refused to comment .

We are one of the leading seafood restaurants at Mahabalipuram present for more than two and a half decade. Searock serves the most delicious seafood one could find in the land ruled by the Pallavas. We at searock let our guests pick their choice of fish
Very fresh fish and seafood brought to table before cooking. Lovely service. Quality of cooking was amazing; the best Marsala I have ever tasted on fish! Reasonably priced for western wallets. Two substantial main courses and two large premium beers at less than IRP 2000

Enroute from Pondicherry to Chennai, just when the stomach growls for some good lunch, one comes across a promisingly busy restaurant with an impressivename. Guru restaurant boldly promises good meals, and in we go for our quick sapad. As is typical of such highway eateries, service is quick. No sooner have we ordered, in comes the banana leaf. Since we have ordered crab soup that arrives first. The soup is delicious with fresh baby crabs and a strong hit of pepper. As soon as we finish, the non-veg meal (Rs 125) five bowls with fish curry, chicken curry, prawns curry, mutton curry and a golden coloured rava pongal arrives, along with two veggies and of course rice along with it. The extras we have ordered also follow â roast nalli (Rs 180) has meaty marrow that easily comes out, a perfectly cooked mutton liver fry (Rs 160) and a red fierce tasting Kingfish (Rs 190), along with sambhar and rasam. Within fifteen minutes this delicious meal is polished off. Now this is how all fast food should be!

A relaxed friendly atmosphere specialising in South Indian veg and non-veg curries and dosa, as well as seafood and Western dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cooking classes with Babu are also available.
A very nice place to have a good time with your friends. I was visiting Mahabalipuram in autumn 2017. Babu was very friendly, welcoming, and also joined me for lunch. He asked me if I can paint something on the wall, so I did and tried my best... Canât wait to come back sometime!
