In recovery from a 'tummy upset', the Four Seasons pizza was just the thing to settle things down. Arrive before 6pm for a table because they're quite busy at supper hour. Quick service, excellent food, reasonable prices.
5. Mama Lao
A discreet place, just a few steps away from the river. Cozy open air atmosphere in a local home, right next to our outdoor kitchen. We serve mainly Lao and Thai food, have friendly personell and all our ingredients are organic.

At the newly opened Thakhek restaurant Mama Lao, I met a super friendly staff and was served great food from the Lao cuisine. A highlight in the small town, I returned for several meals during my short stay, and I would recommend the cozy restaurant to anyone. The English speaking staff made the experience complete.

Come here to enjoy the expansive view of the Mekong River. I had lunch here twice and enjoyed the seafood fried rice as well as a noodle dish. The beer was cold and the service was good. You can probably find similar food at a lower price, but you will not enjoy the river view with pleasant breeze on a hot afternoon.

Worth stopping here for a good selection of well prepared and tasty western and Laos food. The generous portions are great value and the service was efficient. It was a shame that this place didn't seem to be open for breakfast as they made a good bacon sandwich!

Be careful when ordering a hamburger. Itâs not a hamburger, but a steak in a baguette. Itâs not a problem, one canât expect Lao peopleâs English to be perfect as itâs not their native language after all! The food was really nice!The gentleman who served me was a very nice guy and later on, due to me getting bombarded with mosquitos gave me some repellent to use and put some citrus in a beer bottle under the table.It was a great experience and I got to watch the footie whilst eating my meal - even though Iâm not a big fan it was still nice.

We got the famous room with the balcony overloking the main street. Very stylish but dark and noisy. Changed to a room at the top of the building overlooking some roofs. It was quiet and light and comfortable though not quite finished. When they get round to the hooks for towels, bathroom mirror, etc and work out why the plumbing is noisy in the next room, it will be fine! Check out the other hotels on the river before you commit though. The staff are nice and the tour company in the same building couldnt be more helpful
